summary: soobin doesn't like the fact that he's being peer pressured into finding a girlfriend just because of a stupid bet his friends decided to come up with, but what if someone else in a similar situation finds him and they decide to help each other?

or the one where y/n really wants a playstation 5 and soobin wants his friends to leave him the fuck alone, so they decide to pretend they're together for a while just to get what they so desperately need.

#08 : meeting odi

the group of friends were sat on the couch as yoon and beomgyu had their own rendition of the glee version of telephone. the entire time they were together it was you and soobin in your own world, neither of you paying any mind to doyeon scolding gaon during dinner or beomgyu's continuous mocking of yeonjun. everyone was pretty much wasted at this point, doyeon flirting with sieun, gunil begging taehyun to sign his petition to throw gaon into space, hueningkai being elected to rap beyoncé's part in telephone.

you were resting your head on soobin's shoulder with your eyes shut, everyone could see him with his face bright red and knew full well it wasn't the alcohol. he played with your hair as your arms were wrapped around his torso, anytime beomgyu and yoon would turn to see you they would start giggling between themselves and continue singing. "i think we're gonna go get some fresh air!" soobin exclaimed , causing you to open your eyes and get up along with him. as the both of you walked out you could hear yeonjun's loud cheering.

as you walked out hand in hand, you could see soobin tripping over himself, giggling to himself and his face still burning bright as he makes plenty of random statements that make absolute zero sense. "you're such a lightweight!" you chuckle, nudging his arm. "mmmm i don't think so." he laughs, he then gasps loudly and starts running while he pulls you with him "you need to meet odi!" he yells in the cutest tone you could ever hear, you don't protest and continue running alongside him.

once the both of you arrive at his apartment he immediately leads you to his room and begins speaking to odi using his baby voice. the rest of the night is spent with you playing around with odi, odi almost immediately taking a liking towards you, baffling soobin completely. later on in the night the two of you grow exhausted resulting in you somehow getting tangled in each other, arms wrapped around the other for warmth while in your sleep.

"What the hell are you doing?"

"I'm watching," you murmur in response, eyes completely focused on the hedgehog. "I think we're communicating telepathically. I think he likes me."

It's the third time you've come over to his place — the first being when Soobin was sick, and the second being just last Saturday —, and so far, when it comes to Odi, you've only done what you're doing right now: watch. Which is kind of odd, considering how much you pester Soobin about how his hedgehog is, in fact, your son, and that you're gonna steal him for yourself.

It was two weeks before Christmas and you were starting to get desperate. Every year it was the same, your whole family would show up to your grandma’s on Christmas day, presents and significant others in tow. After dinner, the couples would snuggle up in the living room before opening gifts, while you sat with the dog, painfully single and nursing glass after glass of your uncle’s famous spiked eggnog that may as well have been straight bourbon. You dreaded trying to dodge the increasingly uncomfortable questions about when you’d settle down and declining offers to be set up on blind dates as politely as your tipsy brain would allow; trying to ignore the pitied looks and the less than comforting pats on the shoulder you’d receive.

You just wanted this year to be different.

You liked to think that part of you enjoyed being single, but you weren’t alone by choice, and it definitely wasn’t for lack of trying. It seemed like you could ever keep any relationship afloat long enough to get through the holidays, the sparks you thought you felt fizzling away after a few dates…if you even made it past the first. You were starting to think there was something wrong with you, one too many flops and you had essentially given up on trying to find “the one”.

You seriously considered faking sick, not wanting to go through the humiliation of another family holiday spent as the only one unattached; but then, you thought about how sad your grandparents would be. You didn’t get to see them as often as you would have liked, and you didn’t know how much time you might have left with them, so you shook that thought away, preparing yourself to grin and bear it for another year.
