Do you ever think about how the first thing Hook said to Emma after almost drowning was “Actually, I quite fancy you from time to time - when you’re not yelling at me.” Like baby boy just saw his heart sinking lifeless to the bottom of the Neverland sea and the relief of her being okay and alive has him teetering on the edge of walls he has built up, ready to jump and fall irrevocably in love. He just spits it out before his better judgement can stop him, before he can talk himself out of it. He says it like a meaningless flirtation but it’s Freudian slip, and you can see in Emma’s eyes she knows it’s true. And that’s when he starts following her around the island and making moments to spend with her and pining and yearning and there’s no going back. All because she almost died and that’s so he can think about so the words just tumble out.
