two weirdos who would do anything for eachother !!!!!
Ozai is so pathetic, like that “take his bending away haha he’s harmless now” trick would never have worked on Zuko, if you took his bending away he’d just grab his swords and come at you twice as hard, Azula doesn’t have swords or anything but she’s pretty good at hand to hand and amazing at talking her way out of problems, Iroh bust himself out of prison with no bending at all, meanwhile Ozai? Gets his bending taken away and then just collapses, doesn’t even try anymore, then just sits in prison and tries to get into Zuko’s head some more, he could have trained up and tried to break out too! But no! Bet he can’t break steel bars with his bare hands. Bet he can’t kick a steel lever in two. Bet he can’t even do a flip.
Also we never really see him do any really impressive firebending apart from when he has magic comet power, I guesss he shoots some lightning at Zuko, but that’s it and Azula is still better at the lightning thing. Azula has blue flames. Zuko can do firebreakdancing and bend with his swords. Does Ozai, who is not 14 years old, have blue flames? No he doesn’t.
He didn’t even do his coup himself, Ursa had to kill Azulon for him! Could have just challenged Iroh to an Agni Kai for the throne but he didn’t bc he knew he’d lose.
And then he only ruled for like 6 years! He lost a war that had been going on for 100 years bc of a bunch of kids.
Loserlord indeed
– Aang after getting slightly too drunk at the 5 year anniversary of Zuko’s coronation
I know that realistically you can only fit so many movies into a list of approximately 100, but I cannot take that "How many of tumblr's favorite movies have you seen?" list that's been going around seriously because there are some truly egregious omissions.
Some of it is very clearly recency bias, which makes me wonder if the op truly wasn't on here in 2013 or so, but you're telling me you made a list of "tumblr's favorite movies" that doesn't include Pacific Rim or Mad Max: Fury Road? Because, like, I was there, Gandalf.
I'm a ridiculous human and genuinely couldn't sleep until I tried my hand at a better, more balanced list -- though of course, I have my own biases when it comes to what corners of this website I've lurked in over the years. For what it's worth, I did consult the last several Years In Review, while also drawing on the fact that I've been here for over a decade. But if there's anything that truly doesn't feel like it should have made the cut, blame my mutuals for putting it on my dash all the time.
(And apologies, but I couldn't seem to find Goncharov among the website's listings)
hey, don’t cry. one half flour one half yogurt knead into dough and fry for easy flatbread and dip in balsamic vinegar, okay?
After three batches, my findings so far:
- I use full fat Greek yoghurt and self-rising flour
- Ratio by weight
- Add a pinch of salt
- Knead until no longer sticky, adding more flour if necessary
- Roll them with olive oil instead of flour and fry in an otherwise unoiled, preheated pan (medium heat) (trust in the lord; it will seem like it's going to stick to the pan at first but they'll unstick in about 15 seconds)
- Roll them thin but not too thin; mine take about 45 seconds on either side
- Serving with garlic butter is also a very good option
I’m gonna be eating these for a month
This actually works?? Two-ingredient bread??
I gotta try it.
That's...naan.
That's naan?
*runs to Google*
HOLY SHIT THAT IS NAAN! HOW DID I NOT KNOW NAAN WAS THAT EASY TO MAKE?
this is one of those rare easy bread recipes that also works with gluten free flour! the yoghurt helps with structural integrity. you may want a pinch of xanthan gum if your flour doesn't come with it mixed in. i like to mix some rosemary into the flour to have a herby naan, since i can't have garlic.
ADD CUMIN. Holy shit. Add cumin to the flour its so good!
The rosemary one is also fab
godddd im back on my bullshit thinking about whalefalls again
specifically the whole speciation/evolutionary stepping stone thing where they allow certain species to move, adapt, and disperse in new environments through the resources that they create simply by dying. Literally hundreds of species take advantage of one when it happens. So many species are fundamentally altered by a resource oasis hundreds of times more effective than marine snow.
fuckkk all im thinking about is shit like. one body. one death. yet a body that, depending on certain conditions, could take up to a CENTURY to be fully returned to the entropy it came from.
That shit can be considered an actual fuckin. Biome. a whole biome in a single creature.
Imagine you, a single cell or near single cell microorganism being the latest in a generational line that spans back so far that your line has evolved and speciated from its origin point before the whale fell.
Imagine you, with a lifespan of days or weeks living in rotting flesh that will presumably take up to a full century to fully consume
Imagine you, your entire bloodline, your whole world living off one body. Alive off of corpse-fat and marrow, consuming your god as it transforms you into something unrecognizable
i'm not going to lie when i end up on this part of my brain I do feel a little ludovica bonnaire about it all
edit: wait i got another line i need to write down before i pass out:
Your God may live, but I thank everything that my God is dead.
sorry for not understanding typical romantic conventions it will happen again
Sorry for throwing popular ships into the garbage bin and replacing them with rarepairs, family dynamics and qprs, it will happen again.
having a very public breakdown on tumblr is actually quite noble and should be respected
I can’t reblog with vids so have a play by play
fyi tumblr is fucking over people with custom domains
if you have a custom domain set, DO NOT UNTICK THE BUTTON on blog settings. you’re not allowed to add it back. (nope, that’s not mentioned anywhere on blog settings itself.) if you switch hosts and need to update nameservers, congrats! you’re fucked
custom domains were a feature that’s been available over a decade, but they’ve been unceremoniously removed. the idea of “legacy” domains is a joke
this is doubly egregious because they absolutely could be selling domains for people that don’t have one, while still allowing those of us that already had a domain to keep using ours. they also don’t even allow you to pay to use your own. so if someone bought a domain specifically to use on tumblr, if they accidentally untick the button then poof! they’re fucked because they can’t re-buy their own domain from tumblr
it’s honestly pathetic how much of a transparent cash grab this is at worst, and how badly implemented this was at best. this is what happens when you accept incompetency as a modus operandi bc “lol quirky hellsite”
i highly, HIGHLY recommend not investing in this feature due to that incompetency and lack of transparency
People pay this website money? My ad views are my contribution to the business model. Which I don’t mind because I scroll right past them but surely they get paid for that.
Some people pay for custom domains here because they use their Tumblr as a professional portfolio to show off their artwork to potential clients, and having a custom domain is industry standard for that! When I was a graphic designer I almost bought a custom Tumblr domain but I instead chose to make my own custom site elsewhere :’) but that’s just one of many reasons someone might use this feature
it seems like there’s been a misunderstanding, and i would like to clarify just how egregiously shitty this was on tumblr’s end. incompetent at best, flat out insidious at worst
i didn’t pay tumblr to have a custom domain. i paid my domain registrar money to have my own custom domain for other purposes. my domain, for example, is gensoukai.net. this was entirely separate from tumblr, and my blog. but tumblr used to allow someone like me to have a subdomain to redirect our blogs to. another personal example was my blog didn’t have re-lmayer.tumblr.com as it’s url, it had blog.gensoukai.net
allowing this redirect cost tumblr a grand total of $0, and i was paying for my domain anyway. the subdomain didn’t cost me any extra. so it was a mutual “why not?” for both parties, and super convenient for me as a user to use blogs as content under my domain. the idea was that content made tumblr money because i, like all users, was the product, not vice versa
what my og post is saying is that tumblr has removed that functionality to force people to pay them for a domain name, when it used to be free
so, for me, they no longer allow me to have that redirect. but that was just subdomains for my hobby domain… full domains were also allowed to be used for this purpose, for free. and full domains have also gotten the axe
so to bring in what @garfieldildo said, a lot of people have domains for business purposes, and since tumblr not only allows folks to post their work, but for their brand to get recognition and appreciation via reblogs as well, it was a really good platform for artists to host their portfolios. users could actively engage with the works in the portfolios themselves. how neat is that concept? so, a lot of people had domains set up this way
to help put what has happened into perspective, let’s say you have yourartisthandle.net, and accessing that address displayed your blog. then tumblr took that away and told you to have to buy a totally separate domain through them to have a more accessible url like that. but you already own yourartisthandle.net. a domain is registered to and owned by one person in this scenario; you can’t rebuy it from yourself. the only option tumblr allows now is to buy domains through them. so now imagine you have a useless domain that points to nowhere, and tumblr won’t allow you to use it when you bought it for your blog in the first place. you could technically buy a new domain from tumblr, but it would have to be a different address, and then you’re down the cost of the original, and down the cost of the new one as well
the reasonable (and i use that word very, very benevolently in this situation) move would have been to allow people to keep on using their custom domains, and offer other people who may not be as web-saavy the option to cut out a middleman and buy through tumblr directly, and/or transfer the domain to tumblr as the registrar. and then folks who already had custom ones could have have the option to switch to tumblr as their registrar once it’s time to renew. but tumblr is, after all, a hellsite, so of course they aren’t meeting users halfway
i’d also like to add that there is something called domain scalping/sniping. it’s when the registration of a domain expires. let’s say it was bought for a year. it can be renewed before that timeframe is up, which is the safer option so it won’t expire. but if it does, then other people can buy it. a lot of people specifically look for recently expired domains to register because they know it was in use and the original person who had it may want it back. i’ve had this happen to me; i was unfortunately a couple days late to renew, and my domain that i’d been using for years was held hostage for hundreds of dollars
this is relevant because if someone did decide to let a domain expire so they can repurchase it from tumblr for the sake of having that brand recognition for their blog, they might lose it entirely to scalpers
then there’s the fact that tumblr has been forcing mobile on folks more and more. this tumblr.com/blog/blog thing is a recent change. it used to be that clicking on a user’s name/icon would redirect to blogname.tumblr.com, which is itself a subdomain on tumblr. if you ever use desktop and wonder why some blogs display in the defaultish mobile view when before they had a custom theme, this is why. and this isn’t a change only implemented on mobile. they are forcibly redirecting people on desktop to the mobile versions of blogs. you have to know to use the subdomain version on desktop to even access it any more; there’s no link from the dashboard or the mobile version of a blog
that is relevant because on the mobile app of tumblr a custom domain doesn’t matter. a custom domain is useful for web browsers, not tumblr’s app, and tumblr has made it so that accessing the dashboard in a web browser still won’t direct to the (sub)domain version
…oh, yeah. and my domain registrar costs less annually than what tumblr is charging
so. to summarize, tumblr has:
- removed a feature that was free and available for years with no warning or buffer, or really even an announcement
- hasn’t made it clear unticking the option will make it lost to legacy users permanently
- cost people money
- cost people brand recognition, namely indie and small businesses and freelancers
- possibly lost people their brand recognition entirely if they allow the domain to expire because they can no longer use it
- didn’t set up a sensible in-between and aren’t allowing it
- rendered the feature pretty much useless anyway
- is now charging money for it
- is charging more for it than other registrars
and, reminder: the feature didn’t cost tumblr anything
A comic about the spectrum of responses to stress - we talk alot about the more extreme ends of this and trauma, but the more subtle and every day responses can be harder to spot. if we can understand our own and other’s responses better, problems Are easier to confront and blaming is less likely to happen :) hope it’s helpful!!
