heya!

this is my DC sideblog, my main is @chaoxfix

i post headcanons and fics, and live-react to comics sometimes. i'm 20+ but generally a sfw blog.

ao3: connerdrakewayne (but i've been into DC before, and my old ao3 was batofgoodintent -- the quality varies wildly between current and old fics, however. mainly was timkon and dickkory)

writing tag: #cdw-writes

ships: timkon, dickkory, bartkon, stephcass, donnakory

big YJ fan and a fan of the batclan. slowly learning more about the superfam, flashfam, and wonderfam, but i've got a lot to catch up on.

UM GUYS. I JUST NOTICED A CRAZY ISSUE W THE TUMBLR UPDATE.

YOU CAN SEE THE ICONS OF ANONS SOMETIMES.

The way I was able to recognize several anons in one of my inboxes bc of this error. Oh my god. Guys. This isn’t supposed to happen.

Weighing in to say:

YES, I SEE THIS ON MOBILE. HOWEVER I DO **NOT** THINK IT'S SHOWING THE ANON'S REAL IDENTITY.

The profile pictures I see next to anon asks are profile pictures that belong to other, non-anon asks in my ask box also. Some info

  • there are 14 asks in my inbox from the last ~5 days
  • 9 anons, 5 logged in users
  • ALL 14 show pfps, including the 9 anons
  • ALL THE SHOWN PROFILE PICTURES BELONG TO THE 5 LOGGED IN USERS

I think the bug is the inbox INCORRECTLY attributing anons to neighboring, logged-in asks.

Which is still a bad bug! Considering it makes it look like a long-time follower of mine sent me a spam ask.

And is worse if, say, one of these was anon hate.

But it's NOT the anon's real identity. It's a neighboring ask asker's identity

So if you have anon hate in your inbox that looks like it's attributed to your dear friend, who sends you lovely asks all the time, it was Not them.

CONFIRMED THE BUG IS INCORRECT ATTRIBUTION.

Thanks @thepatchycat for being a test subject. As you can see the icon being attributed to this ask is NOT the patchy cat

The pictured icon belongs to @watchingforcomets who sent me a nice ask about nail polish yesterday which I have not yet answered!

That's a good one to keep spreading. Got a bit viral once. It's really expositive.

It's also such a great story.

so so scary to read superboy as a WOC and know that people are gonna read this w zero critical awareness..... "omg all these evil irredeemable adult women are preying on kon" like ok on a watsonian level yes i agree that's what's happening. but on a doylist level are you also aware that these women are characters w no agency of their own. they were written this way. by karl kesel, a white man. are you taking into account the influences of kesel's misogynistic and often ignorant worldview or are you solely interpreting the narrative as though tana and knockout are real people unmoved by the paternalistic hand of god. are you also exercising extra caution wrt to your assessment of tana as the only major female character of colour in a run written by a white man. are you.

like i'm not saying you can't or shouldn't interpret it this way on a narrative level—it's important to superboy's story that it did happen—i'm saying i often cannot tell whether people on the internet are at least peripherally aware of the context in which this story was written, which makes braving the superboy tags such a daunting prospect. like how bruceheads aren't intrinsically ignorant it's just that before talking to them you don't know if they have a flat, one-dimensional perspective of him that does not acknowledge writer/audience bias of any kind or its social context.

#thank you!!!!!#every good friend i have has been subjected to dc feminist lectures about this subject#what does it mean to be a woman reader aware of irl rape statistics knowing women are usually the victims of male SA#and for that to be turned on its head and for there to be so many evil woman rapists in dc. mostly woc. raping all these white men.#gosh it’s almost like the men writing most of this garbage view SA as sexy or something and don’t take it at all seriously!#men writers will write it more as taboo sex that the man can’t really get in trouble for#always ‘well haha he’s just a kid. but isn’t he lucky? all these hot babes like him!’#or ‘hot evil shapeshifters’ or just generally ‘hot woman wants his babies but he’s not into it so she decides for him’#again: the men writing this show their asses. they don’t think sexual assault is serious or damaging#they want the reader to generally see it as sexy. taboo. spicy. to them evil predatory women are just a way to get their rocks off.#do NOT forget who commits over 95% of irl rapes. men.#for men to write women rapists as sexy is to trivialize rape and blame women for something nearly only men do.#(yes actual assault of men can and does happen. but it is mostly men hurting other men. it’s *exceptionally* rare for women to rape.)#idk man it’d be like trying to write poc as primarily colonists or disabled people as violent attackers. its not real.#its flipping the script to fear monger about women and paint us as sexy evil manipulative harpies. as always.#and for it to be nearly ALL women of color is just racism. usually exoticism specifically.#it’s women that white men find taboo and sexy. their race adds flavor to these men. that’s it. they’re just racists fetishizing woc.#again: these men see these SAs as sexy.#engaging with these stories in a purely watsonian way just excuses sexism and racism.#there’s no non racist way to interpret like half a dozen wocs raping kon and most of the batboys.#it’s shitty men writing this.#that’s it.#(the exception is devin grayson but there’s a lot of other stuff going on there)

We owe it all to them.

To repeat the message louder: musicians, journalists, radio stations, listeners, record companies, streaming sites, discos; anyone remotely involved with popular music, you probably owe a big chunk of it to black musicians.

[Image description: text reading "Blues came from Black Culture. Jazz came from Black Culture. (Sentence structure repeats with Rock'n'Roll, Funk, Soul, Hip-Hop, Disco, House, Techno, Jungle, Drum and Bass, Garage, Grime, and Dubstep.) The next time you listen, remember where it came from."]

dick grayson says "i would KNOW if bruce died i would FEEL it" but what he really means is once a month he sits bolt upright and is like Oh My God Bruce Is Dead. I Can Sense It Intuitively. And It's My Fault. and of course bruce is fine dick just has ocd. but one day surely he will sense it for real

i don't care if it's nazis, mormons, or a bunch of misguided autistic people. if anyone ever tries to tell you your soul is from another planet and you're actually part of the class of impressive people that secretly did everything cool in the world but is now extinct and lives on through your broken genome, you RUN. YOU WILL RUN AWAY. YOU WILL SPRINT FULL SPEED AWAY FROM THAT.

grabs you by the shoulders listen. listen to my words. i understand the urge to make fanfiction about yourself and to find a reality in which you're super awesome and great and everyone who hates you is wrong and dumb. i get it. you're better than that. you can love yourself without putting other people down, dehumanizing and generalizing, and retaliating against your oppressors.

there's no NPCs. there's no aliens coming to save us. we're not the next step in human evolution. our hyperconnected nervous systems give us terrible sensory overwhelm more often than they make us geniuses. neurotypical people are sentient, conscious, aware people who are capable of understanding you. we're more the same than we are different. we're more the same than we are different. we're more the same than we are different.

Also stay away from people who say shit like "sexual attraction and romance addles the mind and makes you crazy and irrational and this is why being aro/ace makes you intellectually superior." I've seen that a couple times times on this hellsite. Stay away from anyone who tries to convince you that your racial identity/cultural identity/gender identity/sexual orientation/neurodivergence/any other intrinsic quality makes you a member of some master race that is inherently superior to the other humans.

You are not immune to exceptionalist propaganda.

Encouragment for writers that I know seems discouraging at first but I promise it’s motivational-

• Those emotional scenes you’ve planned will never be as good on page as they are in your head. To YOU. Your audience, however, is eating it up. Just because you can’t articulate the emotion of a scene to your satisfaction doesn’t mean it’s not impacting the reader.

• Sometimes a sentence, a paragraph, or even a whole scene will not be salvagable. Either it wasn’t necessary to the story to begin with, or you can put it to the side and re-write it later, but for now it’s gotta go. It doesn’t make you a bad writer to have to trim, it makes you a good writer to know to trim.

• There are several stories just like yours. And that’s okay, there’s no story in existence of completely original concepts. What makes your story “original” is that it’s yours. No one else can write your story the way you can.

• You have writing weaknesses. Everyone does. But don’t accept your writing weaknesses as unchanging facts about yourself. Don’t be content with being crap at description, dialogue, world building, etc. Writers that are comfortable being crap at things won’t improve, and that’s not you. It’s going to burn, but work that muscle. I promise you’ll like the outcome.

For any writers that need encouragement

I teach writing at a college level. This is all good advice.

This is GREAT advice as a writer who worries about originality a lot, used to dislike writing fight scenes, and hates to kill my darlings (I mean, cut out jokes. I like killing characters).

i love when fic writers who have clearly never tried any kind of alcohol in their lives try to write someone drinking bc they're always like

"he ordered a tall glass of hard liquor. after three large glasses he was feeling tipsy" like babygirl i can't be sure but i think u just sent this man to the hospital

"the amber liquid tasted sweet" bestie i can assure you it did not

god why is ‘sexy woman’ art drawn by men so paradoxically sex-less. it’s just like a woman in a powerless ‘oooo oh no look at me… just sitting here alone … oh golly gee i’m so innocent and helpless and i know you’re supposed to see that as sooo sexy, whatever will you do with me’ and it only works if you already see that boring overused trite script as sexy. but she’s not really doing anything except passively sitting there drawing attention to her boobs or ass or mouth or whatever. it’s all so goddamn passive. without a script to view women as sex objects pre-downloaded, it borders on absurd. like, how am i supposed to see her as sexy when she barely looks like she would want to be an active participant. somehow she always looks like she barely wants to be there even when literally drawn to be a sex object!! and it’s because she’s meant to look like she barely understands what she’s there for! it’s just women drawn to look like they’re pretending they want to be there and somehow they still look like they want to escape the page and do anything, literally anything, else. it’s so boring i could cry. her face is always so smooth, not a single genuine expression to be found. why do women in these art pieces always look like they’ve had a lobotomy or are in the middle of working retail!!
