OVERVIEW/APPEARANCE
Remembrance is a towering, statue-like entity clad in intricately sculpted white armor, appearing almost like carved marble. Chains wrap around their form, suggesting imprisonment or burden. Three serpentine dragon-like creatures coil protectively around them, their expressions solemn and ethereal. A shrouded face beneath a heavy cowl and a spiked crown hints at a being both sacred and mournful.
ABILITIES
1. Archive of Echoes βAll things leave a trace. I merely gather the echoes.β Remembrance can extract and relive the memories of any being, object, or place they touch. These memories appear as translucent specters playing out forgotten moments around them. In battle, they can weaponize these echoesβsummoning phantom warriors, recreating moments of catastrophe, or revealing an enemyβs most traumatic memory to stun or disorient them.
- Passive:Β Gains insight into opponents' past actions and hidden intentions.
- Active:Β Replays fragments of powerful past events, altering the battlefieldβs present.
2. Serpents of Still Time βTime is not a river, but a coil of dragons waiting to strike.β The three dragon-like serpents orbiting Remembrance represent temporal anchors. Each one governs a different aspect of timeβPast, Present, and Future. Remembrance can unleash them in battle:
- Past Serpent:Β Rewinds a zone, undoing events that happened moments before.
- Present Serpent:Β Slows time around a target, locking them in stasis.
- Future Serpent:Β Forces a glimpse of a possible fate, causing panic, hesitation, or altered behavior.
3. Chains of the Forgotten βNames, faces, livesβlost beneath the tide. I bind them so they are never truly gone.β Chains that wrap around Remembrance are forged from forgotten names and erased histories. These spectral bindings can ensnare enemies, root them in place, or silence abilities tied to identity (e.g., named spells, ancestral powers).
- Binding Effect:Β Immobilizes or suppresses targets linked to old legacies or divine bloodlines.
- Protective Effect:Β Forms a barrier from ancestral memories, blocking mind-control or possession.
4. Lament Sigil βWherever I walk, remembrance bloomsβand sorrow follows.β Remembrance can place a sigil on the ground or an individual. Over time, it accumulates grief and memory from those nearby. When triggered, the sigil releases a wave of emotion so intense it can shatter minds, disrupt spellcasting, or collapse the wills of entire squads.
- Delayed burst:Β Emotion-based explosion that weakens morale, strips buffs, and causes fear.
- Can be used to empower allies:Β Allies near the sigil gain focus, clarity, or visions of their ancestors.
5. Immortal Testament βEven in silence, I endure. I am what remains.β When defeated, Remembrance does not die traditionally. Instead, their form collapses into a marble statue, becoming untouchable and immune to further damage. After a set time or when a specific condition is met (e.g., a certain name is spoken or a forgotten secret is revealed), they awaken again, often stronger and changed.
- Second Form:Β Enters a phase of pure memory energy, casting illusions or controlling ghostly avatars. More about this form is below.
- Condition-Based Resurrection:Β Forces enemies to reckon with forgotten truths to banish Remembrance completely.
βExecutionβ¦ begin!β
SECOND FORM
When Remembrance is defeated in battle, they enter their second form.
In this form, Remembrance sheds their statuesque stillness and becomes a towering figure cloaked in pure darkness. Crimson eyes blaze from behind a spiked crown, and a gas mask obscures their voiceβwhat little they speak is distorted and guttural. Black candles burn endlessly in their hands, each flame a soul that once remembered them. The sound of unrelenting, mocking laughter surrounds them, echoing across the void.
Where the first form was sorrowful and sacred, this is theΒ mockeryΒ of sanctity. A corrupted memory that laughs at being forgotten.
POWERS
1. Candle Wail
βEvery soul I carried now burns to be seen again.β
Remembrance holds wax-black candles, each flame containing a bound soul once connected to them. Snuffing out a candle releases aΒ Wailing Shadeβa vengeful specter that targets the emotional wounds of enemies. These shades arenβt just physicalβthey attack with guilt, shame, and regret, bypassing conventional defenses.
- Tactical Use:Β Up to 5 shades can be active. Each one binds to a targetβs past mistake, weakening their resolve and gradually corrupting their abilities (e.g., healing spells heal less, shields flicker).
- Sacrifice Mechanic:Β Shades can be recalled and consumed to heal Remembrance or empower the next attack with an "emotional overload" that detonates on contact.
- Visual Effect:Β The shade whispers the targetβs worst memories audiblyβcausing panic in nearby units.
2. Black Liturgy
βForget prayer. This is what worship sounds like when hope is dead.β
Remembrance chants an inverted hymn, causing reality around them to distort. A pulsing, static-laced laughter echoes in all directions, altering enemy perception and twisting light, time, and sound. It acts as aΒ corrupting auraΒ with layered psychological effects.
- Passive Effect:Β All enemies within range slowly lose clarityβUI distortions, hallucinations of allies/enemies switching places, delayed inputs.
- Trigger Effect:Β The more enemies affected, the louder and more dissonant the hymn becomesβat its peak, it silences spellcasting for 5 seconds and locks enemy cooldowns for 8 seconds.
- Creeping Madness:Β Each second within the aura increases a Madness Meter. At max, enemies hallucinate being in a different era or placeβturning their attacks against allies.
3. Crown of Spite
βEvery thorn is a forgotten name. Every spike, a bitter echo.β
The massive crown on Remembranceβs head acts as a vessel of malice. It feeds on slights, betrayals, and neglectβgrowing more powerful the more it's underestimated or ignored. The longer enemies focus on other threats, the more the Crown retaliates.
- Passive Buff:Β Gains stacks ofΒ SpiteΒ each time an enemy targets someone else. At 5 stacks, the Crown ignites, causing all of Remembranceβs attacks to inflictΒ Memory BleedΒ (damage over time + ability cost increase).
- Thorn Pulse (Active):Β Unleashes a wave of crimson thorns that erupt from the ground, targeting those who ignored Remembrance. Each thorn carries echoes of personal failuresβmomentarily reducing enemy stats and causing emotional recoil (e.g., movement delay, fear stagger).
- Synergy:Β If used withΒ Candle Wail, thorns snare enemies, forcing them to listen to the Wailing Shades.
4. Gasps of the Forgotten
βYou forgot me. Now forget yourself.β
Remembrance exhales a noxious fog through their gas maskβaΒ neuro-emotional toxinΒ made from suppressed memories. The fog doesnβt poison the bodyβit disorients the soul.
- Area of Effect:Β A creeping, black mist rolls outward, silencing enemy abilities based on identity (e.g., a paladin loses holy-based attacks, a necromancer forgets how to summon).
- Fog of Oblivion:Β The longer enemies remain inside, the more they forgetβmechanically losing access to their UI, minimap, or targeting systems temporarily.
- Lasting Trauma:Β Anyone who leaves the fog gains theΒ Forget-Me NotΒ debuffβrandomly locking one ability for the rest of the battle.
5. Final Laugh (Ultimate)
βYou laughed when I was erased. Let me show you the punchline.β
When Remembrance is nearly defeated, the laughter intensifiesβshaking the very air. With a final, mad cackle, they explode in a massive eruption of corrupted memory-flame, burning truth, identity, and willpower.
- Instant AoE Detonation:Β Deals psychic and flame damage in a wide radius, scales based on how manyΒ shades,Β thorns, orΒ fog victimsΒ were active.
- Persistent Mark:Β Survivors gain a permanent debuffββYou Will Remember Meββcausing all memory-themed attacks (from Remembrance or allies) to deal bonus damage and bypass resistances.
- Haunting Resurgence:Β 50% chance to rise again from the ashes as aΒ Laughing Idol, an immobile statue that radiates laughter and denial, warping the battlefield passively until destroyed
Relationship sheets will be added soon when Remembrance begins to trust more people. Currently, everyone that they interact with (if they do,) is at 0% and will remain that way until further notice.
