some fics i've written with bad descriptions

  • the cost of a thing - a case fic where dean and cas have to fake a relationship with each other in an idyllic suburban neighborhood, they're both pining and are idiots but it's ambiguous as to why until later, i invent a new monster that eats people's loneliness
  • ascend - fix-it fic, i don't observe 15x20, dean grieves like a goddamn widow, weird physics shit, gabriel helps while also maintaining his dick status, there's a happy ending where cas comes back and everyone cries and dean and cas cuddle as is their goddamn right
  • too much - i cried writing this because i have no chill, the short story of cas and dean intersecting over the years and finally coming together
  • passing ships - first destiel long fic i've ever written, cas is a cupid assigned to dean, anti-soulmate au, lots of sad cas, dean is a kindergarten teacher and ridiculously adorable, lots of fluff shoved in between the angst
  • destiel tumblr collection - a series of small fics i wrote on tumblr and cross-posted to ao3, they all feature dean and cas being silly and in love in different aus and canon moments
  • la hantise (deleted off ao3) - spooky scary horror fic set on the moody coast of maine, cas and dean fix up a house together, both are brought closer together by their traumatic pasts, lots of family drama and rainy days. going to be an original novel, DM me if you want the destiel version via google docs

don't worry, there's more!

  • where there is darkness - 1950s historical au, dean is a grumpy little lighthouse keeper/traumatized ww2 vet, cas comes to work with him in the isolated lighthouse and is also on the run, blasphemic religious allegory, sooo much hurt/comfort i mean soooo much, lighthouse facts at the end of every chapter, a splash of horror to give you nightmares
  • the weight of the world - cas whump, caretaker dean, deals with rowena's attack dog spell and also ACTUALLY addresses the whole MoC beat down, lots of angst and sex, author lightly explores wing kink for the first time
  • Paradigm - most ambitious plot i've ever written, post-apocalyptic world, cas and dean are gone on each other upon immediate interaction, read if you want to get surprised about something, dean and cas are soooo obsessed with each other in this one like levels of 'i would destroy a world for you' kind of levels
  • Where We Belong - my first romcom!!, rancher dean, cas and bobby are grumpy accountants, small town vibes with lots of mutual pining, cas falls into dean's creek, nothing hurts (except for chapter 6), BEAUTIFUL art that spurred (ha) the story into conception, sit down with a cup of hot cocoa and take a load off
  • the sound of silence - yet another empty rescue fic, selectively mute dean, i attempt to be artsy, but mostly what came out was pain and suffering with a happy ending

i love you fanfic authors that write AUs. i love you fanfic authors that write canon. i love you fanfic authors that write unhinged things specific to their niche interests. i love you fanfic authors that write against the grain of fanon interpretation. i love you fanfic authors that add to fanon interpretation in even more rich ways. i love you fanfic authors with low self confidence, with all the confidence in the world, with 3000 subscribers, with 2 subscribers, who have written a million words and ones that have written 100. i love you fanfic authors who haven't written a word yet but the stories are still knocking around inside your head. i love you fanfic authors!!!!!!!

The organisation was also widely criticised last year over a statement on the use of artificial intelligence in creative writing. After stating that it did not support or explicitly condemn any approach to writing, including the use of AI, it said that the “categorical condemnation of artificial intelligence has classist and ableist undertones”. It went on to say that “not all writers have the financial ability to hire humans to help at certain phases of their writing”, and that “not all brains have same abilities … There is a wealth of reasons why individuals can’t ‘see’ the issues in their writing without help.” Fantasy author CL Polk said at the time that “NaNo is basically asserting that disabled people don’t have what it takes to create art when they trot out the lie that scorning AI is ableist”.

There are two types of writers:

1. 'It's fiction, it doesn't need to make sense!'

2. 'I didn't account for the rotation of the planet and how that affects the constalations while my characters stargazed at different times of year, I have failed as a writer, and this entire thing is trash'

Something by the Sea

Something by the Sea by destielpasta Rating: Mature Word Count: 30k

But Ruth said, 'Do not press me to leave you and to stop going with you, for wherever you go, I shall go, wherever you live, I shall live. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God. Where you die, I shall die and there I shall be buried. Let Yahweh bring unnameable ills on me and worse ills, too, if anything but death should part me from you.' Seeing that Ruth was determined to go with her, Naomi said no more. - Book of Ruth, Chapter 1 After suffering the horrific cost of being cured from demonhood, Dean and Cas settle down in the small town of Old Orchard Beach, Maine, buying a run-down shack near the beach to call their own. Dean attempts to get into a normal routine– fixing up the kitchen, chopping wood for the fire, and picking out paint colors– all with the pleasant backdrop of Cas’s company and a beach fifty feet away. These things prove themselves to be fragile, however, and the past haunts Dean in the form of nightmares and strange phone-calls from an untraceable number, along with the far-from-innocent history of their new house.

Some fics you read will bury themselves into your psyche, and this one is that for me.

A canon divergence story set post season 9, Dean and Cas buy a home on the coast of Maine. While we are only given snippets and flashbacks to Dean’s time as a demon, it is clear that he is still recovering from the havoc he had wrought before he was cured. He and Cas are still reeling at the cost of making Dean human again.

This fic presents one of the greatest portrayals of grief I have ever read. It’s quiet and subtle, but always there as Dean and Cas try to carve out a home and a life for themselves. The symbolic use of fixing a house for healing the soul is well used throughout. The Maine setting is described beautifully— the sea, the rocky shores, the nature, the isolation and the cold winters— and adds to the atmosphere of the story. The foreshadowing is masterful. Details like the lack of a kitchen table in the house and Dean's reluctance to get one takes on new meaning after the fic is complete— perfect for re-readers like me.

Cas is perfectly portrayed. It’s clear he’s also dealing with grief and loss but also that he’s trying to keep it quiet for Dean’s sake. He’s got an edge to him— he’s not afraid to tease Dean or be petty— but everything he does is done out of love. The Dean POV is great. The reader feels his raw emotion alongside him as he slowly works his way towards the first steps of healing.

Finally, I have to mention that there’s a cat. Who doesn’t love it when Dean and Cas adopt a cat?
