I won't elaborate how Killer ended up in Error's place.
Plug is one of the twin skeleton-bros and is often seen as the younger sibling. Unlike Pit, Plug has forgotten nearly everything that happened on the surface when they were children. But he is not sad about it. He can see Pit's suffering from those memories and made it his mission to be the first to comfort his brother, even if he needs to put his job "on hold", to the annoyance of their parents.
The position of the Guide gives him the responsibility to guide everyone into a happy and good future. When the Judge, Pit, judges someone and gives them a chance of redemption, Plug is the first one who takes the person's hand and leads them to the right path. But since it is not every day that someone steps into the Judgement Hall, Plug mostly tends to children. He helps them discover what they want to be and how to be a good person.
As humans invaded their home and attacked them, Plug helped evacuate as many monsters as possible into the castle for safety. When he got a feeling that something might be wrong and that his brother was in grave danger, Plug immediately ran in the direction where his brother was. He could only watch from a distance as a big bomb hit the CORE, before everything went black.
He was devastated when he woke up, only to find out that his brother had gone missing and no one, except himself and Grillby, seemed to remember him. Plug does not accept a reality where his twin does not exist. Plug can feel their bond; he knows that his twin is alive, somewhere. So, with the help of Grillby, Plug changes his form and appearance, taking the place of his brother as both the Guide and the Judge. He is determined to find his brother and reunite with him, but in the meantime, he will make sure that everyone keeps their memories of Pit, even if it means throwing away his own identity.

Pit is one of the twin skeleton-bros. Pit and his brother are adopted by the royal Dreemurr family since they were found inside a burning village without parents after the first war broke out.
When the twins became young adults, the King and Queen gave them the roles of the Judge and the Guide. As the Judge, Pit is the right-hand of his father, the King, and pledges his life to always ensure the safety of the monster race.
After a second war broke out and the CORE's explosion trapped everyone inside a time-loop, Pit does everything to save his home and family. He sacrifices his freedom to split his timeline into a new one, where the Second War never happened and the CORE never exploded.
Unbeknownst to him, he also created other versions of his home, resulting in multiple different alternative timelines that are all tightly linked together.
At this point, my big AU-reveal-post sits in my drafts like a child on timeout (α΅βα΄β)
Since I got Papyrus's design, -after what felt like years- I'll just start focusing on putting those character sheets out and throwing some AU lore into it. Ya know, like a professional.
