Hi! Im a bit nervous sending this ask since a lot of people in the fandom really hate Elijah and love Jedidiah, but im curious on if im reading too much into Jedidiah kinda sucking? Dont get me wrong i really love both characters and think they are amazingly written, but i personally read jedidiah and elijah as like. Reflections of eachother with opposite types of toxic relationships (negligent vs obsessive), where as it seems a lot of the fandom views jedidiah simply as a bit depressed, with elijah being like. The devil. When i listened i viewed both of them as being in the wrong just in different ways, with the most important thing being jedidiahs willingness to change for sydney vs elijah stubbornly sticking with his obsession.

Im kinda curious on what your intentions were there, cause i see a lot of people go as far as saying even liking elijahs character is bad, but when listening, jedidiah made me much more uncomfortable than elijah did since ive been hurt by a lot of people who act like jedidiah, theres really no feeling quite like feeling completely alone when youre with someone. Im not saying elijah is a good person at all, i just feel like a lot of people overstate his issues and understate jedidiahs

Well, I do think that Jedidiah kind of sucks. I think Sydney sucks too but in his own way, and it doesn't excuse nor take away from the unique way in which Jedidiah makes choices to hurt Sydney. Yes, Jeddie and Elijah are foils of eachother in this way

I think this take you have here is a very normal display of literary analysis, and an example of contradictions of perspective in a nuanced media. You and another listener may take away something entirely different, and that's fine. Death to the author, y'know?

If this is how you read it, who cares how someone else reads it? I think we're all a little too focused on looking over eachother's shoulder and making sure everyone has the "correct" take. Have confidence in your own analysis! Not mine, not your mutual's, but yours! And sometimes when you see someone else's opinion you just have to go "wow! batshit take! have a good day..." in your head and move on.
