Witch Hat Atelier Archive

@wha-archive / wha-archive.tumblr.com

Update blog for the unofficial Witch Hat Atelier Archive - please see pinned for terms, links and disclaimer!  Archive Link

What is the WHA Archive?📌

The WHA Archive is a project dedicated to finding illustrations, photos, GIFs etc of the art of Witch Hat Atelier and Kitchen of Witch Hat in one place whilst retaining original sources wherever possible. It’s currently an ongoing project to locate and properly document the art produced by Shirahama Kamome and Sato Hiromi for all fans to enjoy!

The archive is contained on a Google Drive. If you are reposting this link please do so with discretion - private sharing is fine, but when posting publicly please avoid places where the link cannot be easily removed (e.g. rebloggable Tumblr posts) or may be seen by Shirahama or Kodansha (e.g. tags on Twitter or Bluesky). This drive will be taken down if it's requested by the copyright holders. Let's avoid that, please!

Disclaimer

The content contained within this Google Drive is the artwork of Shirahama Kamome (Witch Hat Atelier) and Hiromi Sato (Kitchen Of Witch Hat). It is uploaded here for archival and reference purposes only and the uploader holds no ownership or copyright of the artwork. On request from the copyright holder(s) any and all artwork herein will be removed immediately.

Do not reproduce any artwork herein for commercial purposes.

Support the official release of Witch Hat Atelier and Kitchen of Witch Hat through the purchase of monthly and volume releases.

A full list of rules for the archive can be found HERE (this can be accessed any time from the Drive’s root folder) - please read the first sections before using the drive.

Please also check the Index for more information; to see background details (including canon information not yet revealed in the manga’s pages) and sources of where each artwork was originally posted!

On Reuploads

Most images on this blog or in the archive are unedited - provided you do so with respect for the actual copyright holders, reuploads aren't much different to the drive itself.

However, where images contain translations please do not reupload these elsewhere without explicit permission from the archive admin and the translators/typesetters.

We also ask that you do not reupload full pages from the Reproduction Selection in any public space, and that you do not reupload transparent or edited scans if your blog is dedicated to those things (i.e. do not pass this editing off as your own).

This blog

This blog will update on major additions to the archive, new posts, and post occasional interesting information on what has been found whilst locating the original sources of official art!

Current focuses:

  • Reorganising Index and ensuring all artwork is logged; reorganising file locations for ease of use.
  • Translation of Reproduction Selection
  • Official Merchandise - locating product photos and digital samples; logging information
  • Gaps - filling in gaps in collections (e.g. missing volume covers)

If you have a link to any Witch Hat Atelier art that has not been posted, or know of an artwork that needs sourcing, please get in touch via the Ask or Submit box. If you notice mistakes in any of the information presented or have any images in higher quality, please get in touch also!

Thank you so much for this!! I'll add this to the post!

(I actually only got it once, so thankfully you tried again!!)

Afternoon all, hope you're having a good day. The above was posted by WHA's German Publisher, Egmont Manga, following the Leipzip Book Fair that Shirahama just attended, and I'd seen the wonderful WitchHatUpdates account on twitter share these screenshots and wanted to share it here too as I whole heartedly agree with the publisher here. By purchasing from official sources or second-hand from fans selling old copies at reasonable prices we can keep our fan community low on scalper behaviour. This will be extremely critical when the anime comes out and we see an influx of fans and the opportunists looking to exploit their wallets. This is especially true of extremely limited items such as event-specific goods - it's one thing to buy an old artbook that was available for online preorders at double price, it's entirely another to encourage physical spaces to be swarmed with people looking to make money in the literal place where a fan could have been.

English ALT text is below, if someone would be willing to transcribe the German I can also add that.

[ID: A screenshot of an instagram post from Egmont Manga's account (egmontmanga). It consists of white text on a black background, arranged into 2 columns. The text reads: "Hello everyone! We've received messages that some people want to sell the trade fair edition of 'Atelier of Witch Hat' at exorbitant prices; one person even sold a signed shikishi, which, to be honest, disappoints us. "The bad news is: we can't do anything about it. [Emoji of a right pointing arrow, to direct you to the next column.] "The good news is: you can! Simply by doing nothing. If you stick together as a community and no one responds to these offers, these people will be left with their offers. "Using books and shikishi in this way is neither in our interest nor the artist's interest. The same applies here as concert tickets: don't buy from third parties at exorbitant prices. "Best regards, your Egmont Manga Team [hand-heart emoji]" END ID]

I remember in January I asked for a link for I think the French WHA Artbook. Has it been released yet or no? Thank you for reading my question :)

Hi there! If you're asking about L'Art Des Sorciers it has indeed been released by the French publisher. It's also been announced that Kodansha USA will be releasing the same artbook in Autumn this year if you held off buying it.

Also! For those not currently aware - the big ol' artbook that was published by Pika AND the new colouring book will ALSO be published by Kodansha USA. Link to information here. The publishing date is set for Autumn 2025.

Owning both of these I can say that the artbook is fantastic, and especially worth it if you've not gotten your hands on any artbooks previously as it covers a lot of their contents and more! The colouring book also has fantastic colouring pages to go through - the only thing I'll say is the pages are double-sided (and presumably still will be for this edition) which means if you like to colour with mediums that bleed through a page you'll have to get two, only colour certain pages, or make copies.

It's likely to be a long time before I can get the full artbook edited and uploaded, but I do feel like I should delay it until sales start for this version. I will probably prioritise uploading images that aren't in other artbooks in the interim.

Scans of the artbook are complete! I JUST found a setting on my scanner which reduces some of the ink-dot issues I've had... Well, perhaps I'll ignore that for now ✌️ Now to crop and edit every page aha

you are doing god's work with those scans, thank you 🫡✨️

dsljkfg thank you, i needed to hear this today cos the back stiffness is finally gone from the last scanning sesh aha. every day i feel like i should print this image for my wall

yeah I also want to say I’m a casual follower who just likes a heads up when the English chapters release but I think it’s super cool the effort you go into to scan and document witch hat atelier work! the art for this series is truly beautiful, it’d be a shame if any of it was somehow lost. Have a good day!!

haha, well it's neat to know i'm also useful in that way! if i ever forget to announce it - the japanese chapters typically come out on the 4th Thursday of the month at 12am Japanese time (unless it's on break for that month), with the English translation coming out the following week!

I used to do scans for an old fandom and I understand it sometimes feels like a thankless endeavor so I wanted you to know the level of appreciation I have for you for all the time and effort you're putting into this archive. You're truly incredible!

⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝♡

Thank you so much! ♥ I've been very fortunate that so many people not only show such support and appreciation for the work I do, but also support me when I'm frustrated too. It really feels wild that this started as an excuse to properly organise my image collection and now it's this big ol' thing! Shirahama's work definitely attracts a very sweet and thoughtful fandom aha

A part of me is wondering if it would be absolutely bonkers to order a second copy of the A4 artbook so I could remove the binding for scans...

Pros:

  • I won't damage my own copy by bending the spine backwards
  • Considerably crisper scans, particularly around the centre, which means much less editing work
  • I can decorate with the pages afterwards

Cons:

  • That's Money Baybee
  • I've never taken apart a book like that before what if I mess it up
  • 90% of the pages are available from other sources including digital so how much do I gain from this
  • This is a slippery slippery slope if it turns out to be easy

It was an imperfect process (the glue that was between signatures means there was some stuff lost) but... :)

Re: buying another art book for scanning

Most sources are at lower quality (twitter compression or just small paper), so I don't think it's useless !

If you don't want to pay too much, you can ask your followers to help you with a ko-fi page. Since you're doing it for the community, I'm sure people would be ready to help ! And if you don't want to mess up, you can always take apart a cheap second-hand book so you have some experience :)

Getting a second hand book would be a good idea - it looks like it's stitched sections bound at the spine by glue, so I think I can get that apart with patience and some research.

Aha, it would be a good idea but I also don't want to mix money and this blog together. Dancing a fine line! It's very rare that I buy something I don't also want for myself, so I can take the expense

Anonymous asked:

Is there anywhere to read the latest chapters in English?

If you live in the countries where it's available, they're available to purchase on KManga a week after they're published in Japanese (the latest chapter is currently only out in Japanese). I believe you can also use a VPN to buy from another country.

I've already got a comic-days account set up so I can purchase and "read" (by machine translation apps) the chapters as they come out in Japanese
