ranting about the fans “debate” around Toy Story 5
so theres been a debate about whether or not Mr and Mrs Potato Head are going to be recast in the upcoming Toy Story 5. and I just wanted to answer with this:
I know that it seems like the answer is obvious since both Don Rickles and Estelle Harris are dead (RIP you absolute legends) but there are people who are genuinely surprised at the idea of them being recast and even speculating ways that they would show up in the movie.
no joke some people think that they’re just going to keep reusing unused voice lines or even that they’re going to have a silent cameo in the movie, which is laughable because they’re IMPORTANT MAJOR CHARACTERS.
and I get that’s what they did for Toy Story 4 since Don Rickles died and they had his family’s permission to do it because he would have wanted it and they were honoring the legend by doing so, but that is completely thrown out the window in this movie.
by making another movie that the Potato Heads are going to be in, they’re completely chucking “honoring a legend” out the window. why? they’re money hungry.
the WHOLE REASON why they’re making this movie in the first place is that they want money. obviously another movie with beloved characters and a successful franchise is going to blow up the box office. and because they need essential characters for the plot, they’re going to recast the Potato Heads because they’re money hungry.
it’s strange how people think that very important, essential, main, money-pulling characters from a beloved franchise are going to have a SILENT CAMEO. A CAMEO? REALLY? and SILENT TOO? no.
not only that but they’re actually looking for someone to voice Mr Potato Head already while the film is in its early stages of production. so…
now with that out of the way… no, I don’t have faith that, especially after Inside Out 2, Pixar/Disney will find voice actors who can live up to the OGs. and no, I don’t expect them to.
especially since these guys are, in fact, legends.
