taking certain YouTubers by the hand and saying very pointedly that if all you're doing is explaining a concept in-depth without any analysis......if all you're doing is laying out the various points of view on an issue without actually arguing anything - then you have not written an essay. if your video is about the alt-right pipeline and all its actually saying is "yeah that exists and here's how it works" that's not an essay, it's a summary. someone just linked me a "video essay" about severance theories and the video just basically listed out all the popular theories for 20 minutes and the creator kept saying "in this video essay" you haven't written essay you're not arguing anything!!!!!!! idk when video essay just came to mean a "a video where someone speaks longer than 7 minutes about something" but it is very irritating. don't waste my time!!!!!!!
