Temptation of Saints (Gelphie AU)

An AU where Oz is not as progressive or technologically advanced as canon. Women are forbidden from attending places of higher learning, meaning young, strange green Áelphaba—living proof of the Unnamed God’s wrath—stays under Frexspar’s harsh, cruelly pious teachings until adulthood while her armless sister Nessa is sent to live in a convent.

Frex decides he needs to begin a new congregation after a visit from the Time-Dragon Clock in Munchkinland corrupts his current one. He chooses the remote, mountainous country village of Frottica to begin his new flock. A place that is only now reachable with the completion of the Great Gillikin Railway. Frex claims the people there are ‘ravaged by sin’ due to their belief in Lurline, deity of life and creation, and wants to convert them to the Conventry of the Unnamed God instead. He brings Áelphaba along in hopes to scare soon-to-be converts into following the will of ‘the only’ true gospel.

Or end up green and monsterous, like his sinful child.

Unfortunately, Frex underestimated how sinful Frottican’s actually were. And suddenly his strange, well trained green child is tangled in a web of sin with the small towns free-spirited young pride, Galynnda Arduenna.
