DOSHU!!! I’d been reading @vdoshu fic long before I’d met Doshu, and meeting Doshu felt like meeting a tomarrymort celebrity! But they’re so very down-to-earth, always willing to offer writing input, and so friendly and kind! (except to their characters, who they put through the wringer with lots and lots of angst!)
Doshu has SO MUCH INCREDIBLE range as a writer — covering every genre from split-your-sides crackfic to bawling-your-eyes-out angst, and everything in between. And the range of ships they cover is also insane! From every flavor of Blackcest, to Drarry and nextgen, and of course, Tomarrymort. Doshu’s AO3 page is a treasure trove of rarepairs and Black family-centric fic that I definitely recommend checking out. Here are 5 Tomarrymort fics that stand out in my mind and will haunt me (in a good way!) forever:
- Everything We Dream Can Be Real (harry / tom, 52k, E) – Oh my god, I’m still screaming about this fic more than a year after I’ve first read it. Not your traditional time-travel do-over fic – Harry redoes his life (or is it his life?), but with no magic, and eventually cracks and becomes a serial killer. The non-linear narrative was so skillfully done, and the build-up kind of felt like a casefic, as you're trying to put together all the pieces of the puzzle. Highly recommend if you like serial killer Tomarry fics! (A bonus! Look at this gorgeous bookbinding that @witchyficbindery did for this novel-length fic!)
- Three Turns Should Do It (harry / tom, 284k, M) – Harry gets sent back in time and grows up alongside Tom Riddle in the 1940s — but with a twist. Tom is such a darling little bean in this fic (his inner dialogue from his sorting: “I want to be happy. I want to matter.” – Isn’t that gorgeous?) This longfic is sooo extensively researched and written with so much historical accuracy – you can tell the labor of love and hours and hours of research Doshu must have poured into this. A must-read for anyone who wants to truly understand the conditions under which Tom grew up under the spectre of WW2.
- No More (harry / voldemort, 34k, T) – I think about this fic all the time as well. Another time travel do-over premise, but one in which Harry decides to make the prudent decision to just say... fuck it. I love fics where Harry decides to fuck off from the war and go his own way and create his own fucking happy ending. (Sorry I’m cursing so much in this post, I just feel really strongly about this!!)
- The Other Path (harry / voldemort, 23k, T) – God, I love this set-up – I love fics where Harry goes a little bit insane after the war and seeks out a different path for himself. In this case, he willingly goes to a reality where Voldemort’s won, and this—precisely this—is the excitement both of them have been looking for.
- Anniversary (harry / voldemort, 4k, E) – This was a MINDFUCK. Voldemort fucking Harry in the cupboard at Privet Drive as an anniversary gift!! YES, THAT’S RIGHT. So deliciously twisted.
