“It’s about time” Raelyn greeted them when they arrived at the lounge.
“Sorry” Evan gave her a peck on the cheek “I hope you weren’t waiting too long.”
“Forget it” she tugged on his arm “I’m freezing.”
“Why aren’t you wearing…” he shrugged at the murderous glare she bestowed upon him.
“I wasn’t expecting to be standing outside this long” she retorted. “I’ll be warm once we’re inside dancing.”
Leaning in close he whispered “how’s it going with Jasper?”
Lifting her shoulder in a dramatic shrug “I don’t think he’s that interested in me.”
“What gives you that impression” he tried to keep his question neutral.
Bumping into him she giggled “I don’t think I’m his type but you might be.”
“I’m not interested” Evan grumbled looking over his shoulder where Jayden was talking animatedly with Jasper. “Why didn’t you tell Jay” he asked trying to ignore the feeling of being trapped.
“How” she giggled “he wouldn’t believe me. He already has me married to him.”
“If I had known I wouldn’t have come tonight” he grumbled more to himself than her.
Leaning her head on his shoulder “don’t tell me you came just to make sure I was alright. I already told Jasper it was a no go. That I’m not as gullible or oblivious as my brother.” She squeezed his arm “I told him you were off limits.”
“At least I have someone looking out for me” he squeezed her hand. “Thanks for being a good friend.”
“I look out for my own” she grinned “if Jayden had a brain he’d do the same.”
“He’s not so bad” he laughed at the face she gave him. “Alright he’s more like an untrained puppy who thinks everyone is his friend.”
Nodding, Evan had every intention of staying as far away as possible from Jasper. Since that moment in the kitchen he hadn’t had an easy moment thinking about tonight. “Don’t worry I don’t intend on getting close to him” he assured her.
“Good” she gave him a smile. “Let’s have some fun.” She dragged him onto the dance floor.
Three hours later Raelyn had deserted him for some friends. He was sitting alone at a table watching everyone having fun around him.
Jasper sat down beside him draping an arm around his shoulders. “Why aren’t you dancing” he asked shouting above the music.
“Jayden had to make a few phone calls” Evan explained scooting away from him. His move however made it more difficult for others to see them. A knowing smile spread across Jasper’s face. Evan jumped when he felt the man’s hand on his thigh, gently rubbing the inside of his leg, moving higher…. “Um I think I’d like to dance” he stood abruptly knocking the table over in his haste.
Taking his hand Jasper led him to the dance floor, pulling him close gyrating his hips against him. “If you were mine I’d never leave you alone” he whispered in Evan’s ear letting his tongue toy with Evan’s earlobe.
Pushing against his chest Evan tried to put some space between them. “I’m not yours” he said.
“Yet” Jasper grinned teeth gleaming in the strobe lights. “I knew from the moment I saw you I had to have you.”
“You don’t have me” he protested “I’m with Jayden.”
Smirking Jasper nodded towards where Jayden sat with his eyes glued to his phone. “Whose arms are holding you babe?”
Consternation flickered in Evan's eyes. Doubt niggled inside him eating away his protests. Why wasn’t Jayden out here dancing with him? Why was this guy paying more attention to him than his own fiance?
“If you were mine I’d never let you out of my sight” he paused nuzzling into Evan’s neck.
Heart racing at the man’s touch and his insistent lips as they hit sensitive spots that until now had only been touched by Jayden. He felt his reserves slipping. It wasn’t until Jasper's hands groped his cheeks pulling him forward into his hips.
“No” he said coming to his senses, pushing Jasper away from him as he stumbled from the dance floor.
Looking up Jayden frowned “is something wrong?”
Putting his phone down he pulled Evan into his lap “tell me.” He pressed his lips into his forehead.
“You won’t believe me even if I tell you” he mumbled burying his face into Jayden’s shoulder shivering.
“Of course I will” he said softly stroking his back. “What happened?”
“I’m afraid it’s my fault” Jasper said “I got carried away on the dance floor. I’m afraid I made him uncomfortable.” Leaning down he placed a hand on Evan’s shoulder “I hope you will forgive me.”
Biting his lip to keep from crying out he nodded keeping his face hidden. The last thing he wanted was a scene. Whispering in Jayden’s ear he asked “can we go home now?”
Once they were home Jayden reached for Evan pulling him close. His lips leaving a trail of tender kisses along his neck to his cheek. Hovering above his lips Jayden asked “want to tell me what happened on the dance floor?”
“How about you kiss me instead” Evan nuzzled into Jayden the way he knew he liked hoping to distract him.
“Aw baby” his voice caught as he tried to curb his desire. “I know something happened. Why won’t you let me help you?”
“I don’t want to think about it” his fingers grazed Jayden’s skin beneath his shirt as he sought to undo his belt buckle.
As Evan’s hand reached into his pants Jayden forgot about everything as he pressed his mouth into Evan’s their moans filling the room. “We’ll talk later” he whispered with one final thought before letting his passions free reign.
Later that night Evan lay awake staring at the ceiling listening to Jayden snore softly beside him. The evenings events replaying in his head. Why couldn’t Jayden pay attention to him like Jasper did? The thought filled him with guilt knowing he should have told Jayden what happened but what really bothered him was the fact he kind of liked being chased. It had made him feel desirable, wanted even special. Things that he hadn’t felt in a long time with Jayden.
The bed shifted as Jayden moved in his sleep seeking the warmth of his body. His fluffy blond head snuggled into Evan's chest. A thin smile tugged at the corner’s of Evan's mouth. His hand rose to run his fingers through the thick unruly mop. He loved Jayden. He was sure of it but why did he have this lingering feeling that something was missing?
Shaking his head he knew he was being ridiculous. His and Jayden’s relationship may not be fireworks but it was uniquely theirs. He was happy. Why allow some jerk make him doubt that?
