I present to you: The short quiet
List of media where the title is significantly more accurate than you expect going in:
- Jojo's Bizarre Adventure
- Everything Everywhere All At Once
- The Thing
reviews of the most common tags on this post:
- Chainsawman: Yeah I guess if you go in thinking "this is a manga about a dude who wields a chainsaw" then you're going to be very seriously surprised. Like "ohhhh. he's a chainsaw man."
- Portal: If I had to take points off this one its that the title is Portal in the singular, and lemme tell you brother. There's a lot more than one Portal in this game.
- Ultrakill: I gotta be honest here. I don't know what you were expecting when you bought a first person shooter called "Ultrakill".
I wanna now shout out that one person who mentioned Rain World, and because having now just played it, fuck dude. They weren't kidding. That World can Rain.
after clearing 3 different DBH playthroughs, i will just say that markus' story could be exponentially better if we're allowed to romance every single jericho four member. markus should be kissing north simon and josh. that's right. AND. jericrew is that OT3 taking turns kissing each other meme but it's an OT4 and connor is in the background giving the camera a thumbs up.
clearing one android crisis at a time with the power of love (and diplomacy, and occasional incredible violence. north should be allowed to kill a man on screen for personal catharsis reasons).
i feel like i'm going through multiple media fixations at once rn. i'm staring at the json files for my stardew mods while queuing hollow knight concept sheets and a single (1) fanart for genshin in celebration of sabzerus, while also playing detroit: become human and reading fics for that in my downtime. extremely weird because i usually stick to one media at a time in these moods.
i guess the real hyperfixation is creativity bc i've been making mods nonstop for almost 3 weeks while drawing on the regular
WIP sheet for hollow, but decided to share this for comparison.
hollow is bigger and taller than ghost even without their horns, but thanks to their injuries and chronic bad posture (thanks to said horns), hollow appears shorter than they actually are.
the protective membrane on their right eye is damaged and constantly leaks liquid void. some of their injuries healed with time, but the more severe ones - notably the damage to their carapace - do not. the flesh on their left shoulder sometimes seemed like it couldn't decide to stick to a corporeal, fleshy form, and the void inside may lash out if not covered.
hollow has learned to weaponize this to smack their idiot siblings when they (are going to) act unreasonably stupid.
the older designs for the sibling trio, which i never posted outside of the HK discord, for some reason (???). featuring some annotations because i like infographics and slight vessel anatomy notes on hollow's. i'll redesign all these in due time. also, i've kinda wanted to make a fashion chart for all 3 siblings (spoilers: hornet is the one with the best fashion sense).
some notes on this AU:
- it's set after the Embrace the Void ending where ghost did not kill any of the dreamers pre-ascension; as a result, characters like quirrel and lurien's butler are still alive.
- however, despite the radiance's death and the seal over the black egg temple breaking, none of the dreamers have woken up.
- hornet is left taking care of her long-lost, dying sibling, and recovery for them and the kingdom is difficult.
- to add insult to injury, not long after the unsealing, the void sea began to rise for unknown reasons. if left unchecked, it would eventually drown hallownest, but no one is up to the job in a godless, dying kingdom. unless...
- (it's a shame that ghost has no idea how to deal with godhood. if only someone could help with that).
still fiddling with the armor details, but eh, might as well post this. for some reason my portrait of ghost, which was meant to be a cooldown doodle, evolved into THIS, which was a redesign of a redesign of my headcanon on how a full-grown ghost would look like in my post-Embrace the Void AU. i'm quite satisfied with the evolution, and i might make a sheet on vessel anatomy later, because i love speculating.
a tl;dr: made their horns thicker at the base and the head less horseshoe-shaped, streamlined the body shape and made the limbs longer, added torso details, changed the carapace to make it a bit thornier/tree bark-like similar to the white lady design i have in my head, and a hybrid draconic/buglike appearance.
got kinda frustrated at a stardew mod i'm working on, so i had to doodle something relatively simple (and for practice).
(big ghost's design from my post-Embrace the Void AU wherein they ascend as the lord of shades and their physical body spontaneously molted into a mature form. unfortunately for the godseeker, they only want to nap, dance, and cause petty chaos. unfortunately for ghost and everyone in hallownest, the void sea goes "no 👍")
*dies for the bugmillionth time* Hey girl
i love when characters don't get to die
this is about villains/antagonists/general horrible people who finally face up to what they've done. especially if they try to pull the good ole "Dramatically Does One Good Thing To Redeem Themselves And Dies," but despite their best efforts they DON'T die. like yes motherfucker there's no easy way out for you, there's only the slow, awkward and painful process of learning to live with yourself. of learning to live with the weight of your mistakes. you get a second chance regardless of if you think you deserve it. you get to try to make amends and do good. you get to live.
this is also about every self-sacrificial bastard of a protagonist who puts themselves in harm's way again and again and again to a wildly unhealthy and unnecessary degree. see, there's something so compelling to me in the unspoken suicidality of repeated heroic self-sacrifice, and the thing about implicitly suicidal characters is that i want them to live. and that can be used to make a death so much more tragic and impactful - noble sacrifices and last stands certainly can and have been done beautifully - but there's also something special to me in seeing such a character make it. because you'd die for the people you love, yes, but would you live for them?
When you’ve been cooking for long enough, you stop making recipes and start making “shit in a skillet” and “whatever soup”
The truth is, cooking is just a basic skill set, and once you have that skill set down you can make almost anything. It's like drawing/painting, once you learn what you're doing, you can do anything.
Do Not Apply This Thinking To Baking.
Finally finished this chibi collage of my main 4 farmers (and put a face to them in my art style)!
Clockwise from top left, they are:
- Eury, the orange tree nymph that dwells in Grandpa's farm. She is the namesake of Citrus Grove Farm and has taken up the position after Grandpa's passing. A passionate rancher. Having spent the last decade hibernating, Eury never quite adapted to modern times and technology. Sweet and eternally mild-mannered... unless you're Mayor Lewis.
- Alba, a retired prodigal forest witch that once left the Valley to work with the First Slash guild. Upon her return, she wanted nothing more than to start a vineyard just to spite Grandpa. Despite everything, she still named the farm after the Rosewood legacy. Has a natural green thumb. Tends to be foolhardy. M. Rasmodius' honorary niece.
- Lyris, a mute siren who washed up at Stardew Valley... and later decided to turn Pelican Town into her new hunting grounds. Vain and materialistic, Lyris never wanted to do anything with some old man's abandoned farm. If you think her sweet, remember that she needs no voice to drown you in her charms. And beware her smile—you never know what's hiding behind it.
- Vega, a vampire who's strangely immune to sunlight. No, wait—a werewolf? Just kidding. Vega is a self-admitted oddball with a deep interest in monsters and the macabre. Totally a normal human; just take their word for it. Their life's goal is to prove that Grandpa is not, in fact, a weirdo for wanting to raise slimes for a living. Ordinary things are not interesting, after all.
