a/n : i was a little late to post it!!! but it’s the sweet boys birthday so it had to be posted! it was supposed to be a birthday special, but i got kinda caught up in it, so i ended up making it a full chapter instead :) hope y’all aren’t bored yet 😗😗
jungwon would often take small walks by the Han river, just to calm himself down and when he needed some time for himself. it had been a good day, there was no doubt there. but he was definitely exhausted. going around in the house he had grew to love, greeting and saying thank you for the birthday wishes was indeed harder than it should’ve been. and not to mention that they would have to involve his famous youtuber life into the conversation.
jungwon walked the same route he usually did, never in the mood to explore new routes and places around the han river. he went to the usual tree he would sit by, probably the biggest around the area. he placed the bag he had brought with him, taking out the blanket, laying it out on the grass, before bringing himself onto the blanket, laying comfortably on it.
it might’ve been his birthday, but Jungwon was never a big fan of it. sure he sort of liked the attention he got. but sometimes his parents just went a little overboard with it. inviting the whole family was just starting to be way too much. but Jungwon had a hard time being honest with them. he just couldn’t bring himself to say anything, especially when they did so much for him.
it was dark. he liked it that way. then he could finally take the mask and the cap off, without people having to come up to him, asking if he was the famous yang jungwon from youtube. sure, he loved being famous, but sometimes being a regular person was what he wished for. he was starting to miss the peace, and how the pressure and expectations weren’t as high.
jungwon took his mask and the black cap he had been wearing since he left his parents house off. the air was fresh, no loud sounds from the wind, just a light breeze hitting his face softly every once in a while. he was definitely relaxed now. as the minutes passed, he slowly drifted off to dreamland. but before he knew it he was woken up by the loud noise from his phone beside him.
“hello?” jungwon answered the phone with a rasp voice before rubbing his eye.
“jungwon why aren’t you answering your phone?? are you alright? did something happen??” he could hear heeseungs voice panic on the other end of the line. heeseung always looked out for him, he promised jungwons mum he would take good care of jungwon, so if anything ever happened to jungwon, heeseung knew he would be in big trouble.
“hyung, hyung, don’t worry, i’m fine. im still at the river. i just fell asleep.” jungwon replied, calming heeseung down.
“okay good, are you coming home yet then? or..?” heeseung knew jungwon liked to stay out during the night time. he did it a lot.
“i’ll probably be heading back home soon.” jungwon answered calmly, nodding to himself.
“alright, i’ll probably already be alseep when you get home, so see you in the morning.” heeseung softly replied, jungwon nodded to himself again before bidding his goodbye and hung up.
he took a last look at the stars in the dark sky. it truly was amazing. and all he could do was just sigh a bit and hope for tomorrow to be a good day. he put on the cap and wore the mask before getting up, he couldn’t bare to interact with more people asking him about his interesting youtube life, so covering up sounded like the best idea for now.
just as he had gotten up he was met by a hard thump against his back, making him stumble a bit forward. “shit.” a small voice let out behind him. he turned around to see a smaller female, in what looked like sweats and a big hoodie. there you stood completely still, holding a now smashed cake in your hands.
you started to panic, putting the cake down, you roughly opened your bag to look for something.
“is everything alright miss?” he questioned with a frown. you had pulled out a couple of tissues before looking up at him.
“i’m so sorry i didn’t see you..i was too focused on the cake, it..was..so pretty,” jungwon could only frown under his mask, obviously not understanding why you were so panicked. did you notice it was him?? he was wearing his full disguise, how could you possibly see it??
“well now it isn’t so pretty anymore, but i’m sure your back is..” you said before pointing at his back. and that’s when it hit him. he slowly grabbed the back of his shirt to take a look, and there it was, the whole top of the cake, on his newly washed hoodie. jungwon could only sigh, not being in the mood to even react any further.
“i’m sorry, you know.” the pair had been sitting on the blanket jungwon had packed, for a good 10 minutes now, wiping most of the cake off of his shirt. jungwons plan was never to stay, he thought he would just bring it home and take care of it himself, but when you had rushed over and started to wipe it off, and uncontrollably had kept apologising, he just took it as a sign to stay for a little while longer.
“i was supposed to bring the cake home for my mum, it’s her birthday tomorrow.” you sigh at your stupidity, which made jungwon chuckle a bit.
“why are you getting cake at this hour? it’s like past midnight.” he asked shaking his head. it truly didn’t make any sense.
“right, well it was supposed to be a midnight surprise. so we were like gonna wake her up at midnight and be the first to congratulate her, since she’s always off to work when we get up in the morning” you chuckle a bit at your idea. it was a good one, and you were looking forward to it, but obviously you messed up.
“and i baked the cake at my friends place because my mum is always home around the time we get home from school, so i stayed over all night to just bring it home now.” you sigh once more. how could you be this unlucky? here you were, sitting in the dark, talking to a stranger, wiping your mums birthday cake off of his shirt. how flipping embarrassing.
you two stayed there for a little while longer, just talking and laughing. it had been awhile since jungwon had talked so comfortably with anyone apart from his best friends. it felt nice talking to someone, who wasn’t just talking to him because of his fame.
“you know, it’s actually my birthday..or it was yesterday.” jungwon don’t know what got into him, he just wanted to tell you. you looked at him with wide eyes.
“well happy birthday,” you quickly say.
“how was your day?” you softly continued afterwards.
“i had a good day, but it was a little overwhelming to be honest,” he let out a long sigh before continuing.
“and talking to you had really made my night, even though you ruined my shirt.” he finished off, making the two of you chuckle a bit by his last statement.
“well me too, i had a grea-“
you didn’t get to finish your sentence before you were interrupted by the loud ringing from your phone. you gave jungwon a apologetic smile before picking up.
“hello?” you lowly answered before getting up, walking a bit away from jungwon, making him stand up as well. “one sec, sunoo.” you looked back at jungwon for a quick moment, still holding your phone.
“i have to go now, thank you for tonight.” and you were off to go before jungwon could say anything. he let out a sigh, before packing his things. he packed his blanket and the dirty hoodie and there on the grass was the cake you had smashed onto the back of his shirt. he looked at it, thinking back to the incident not very long ago, chucking a bit.
“oh god, what just happened?”
was all he could ask himself, before throwing the cake out and taking off to finally go home, with a small smile on his lips, not realising that he never got your name.
