hi my loves, if you could reblog this post, i’d really appreciate it <3 it’s a little insane how comfortable people are getting with criticizing what kind of content other people decide to put out.
at the end of the day, writing fanfiction is a hobby. it’s not a job, it’s not something we are rewarded for. it’s something we do for our own fun, whether that be writing fluff, angst, or smut, it’s for our own enjoyment. you cannot complain about the fandom being “clogged up” by one specific genre. for example, if the majority of a fandom wants to write smut, then that’s that. that’s what they want to write, that’s what they feel most inspired by in that moment. you don’t get to dictate what other people decide to do with their own hobby, and complaining about it is just as bad. to be frank, if you try to do that, you are incredibly annoying and honestly very childish.
and another thing that relates here—people complaining about who certain fics are targeted for. believe me, i understand that it’s frustrating to not be able to find many male!reader fics. i understand expressing disappointment about that. but what is entirely different here, is complaining and harassing other writers who don’t write male!reader. how are you gonna sit there on your ass and whine about other people not catering to a demographic they don’t even fit into themselves? many writers don’t write male!reader because they feel they do not know how to capture the male/mlm experience properly and do it justice, while others don’t do it because they simply do not enjoy writing it. either way, that is completely valid. people should only be writing things they genuinely want to write and enjoy, not things that cater to your specific needs. and it really bugs me in the harry potter fandom specifically because this fandom is so big. if you just looked under the right tags, you could find as many male!reader fics or as many non-smut fics as you wanted, and if you couldn’t, you should be supporting and boosting the limited amount of writers in that area, but instead you’re out here bitching about how what other people write isn’t up to your standards.
if you want something different so bad, write your own shit. sorry to be blunt about it.
i100% agree! for all of u out there who r not completely satisfied over the amazing and varied selection of writers in the web, im afraid, it’s real easy to fix.
being rude and disrespectful to the writers, is really not the solution or cute.
for example, i looove me a good smut. however, if u check my blog, almost all my fanfics r SFW. why? well…, first of all, im just simply not very good at writing porn. second of all, i realized that i don’t particularly enjoy writing it either, and rather enjoy writing different stuff.
so what did i do? i started writing my own shit.
maybe ur not the best at writing certain genres (like me!) or simply u just don’t want to, but to complain about something when there are various clear solutions laid out in front of u, is a new level of low, hypocrisy and arrogance.

ayyyy! absolutely start a blog! first thing I did, was to spend a lot of time trying and thinking of the overall aesthetic of it. you don't need to start writing immediately, have fun in the process. once you have it laid out, you can start creating mood boards or reading other marvellous writings of all the amazing creators here or wattpad or Ao3... is honestly trial and error. don't get too obsessed with the amount of likes and interactions. is your blog! do it bc u like it and find it interesting and fun.
