sometimes i forget most aro people are aro in the "dont/rarely feel romantic attraction" way because im aro in the "dont/rarely feel romantic attraction and also i think we need to restructure society and probably get rid of marriage" way and i'm deep in the trenches of Thinking about it that i forget that's not like the default position for most people not even for most aros

marriage should be like birding. you don't have to do it, you can live a perfectly fulfilling life without it, and nobody expects you to do it (most people don't, and that's fine!). you can do it if you want and a lot of people find value in it, but society isn't structured around how birding is one of the ultimate goals for everyone and it's seen a weird anomaly if you don't do it and people assume there's something wrong with you. also the government shouldn't be involved with it and you should be allowed to do it with as many or few people as you want

and if you say you like geocaching nobody should be like "well you're only doing that to find someone to go birding with, right? because you can't just go geocaching. birding should be the most important thing in your life. i would kill myself if i couldn't find someone to go birding with" and people should just kinda understand that that's a wild position to take. like maybe some people just don't want to go birding, and that's fine

i think many allos on some level believe they know what asexuality is like because they can remember a part of their childhood before they experienced attraction and assume that those experiences are roughly equivalent to being an asexual adult. they are not. stop acting like you cant make sex jokes around me
