the most unrealistic thing only murders has ever done is try to convince us that no one would cast meryl streep.

It's 100% this. I've been surrounded by theater people my entire life and there are absolutely Meryl Streep level talents out there that are not famous. Triple threats walk in community theaters all across the land doing musicals and improv and original plays and open mic nights in bars. This takes nothing away from Meryl Streep, she's brilliant, but it's like wondering how many Einsteins there were through history that languished in factory jobs or tilling fields you know? They are out there and unless you're in the right place at the right time you will never feel their light shine on you. Fame is not a confirmation of genius, it is merely a vehicle for sharing genius with a wider audience.
