format constraint

[edit]

set it [-a-zA-Z0-9 .]+ so at least html and wiki syntax isn't alowed. --Akkakk 23:16, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

is it possible to turn the definition round: everything is allowed except strings containing "http:// ..." ?--Giftzwerg 88 (talk) 21:42, 4 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Such simple regexp is inadequate. See examples from the British Musuem: https://confluence.ontotext.com/display/ResearchSpace/FR+Enhancements#FREnhancements-SampleIdentifiers --Vladimir Alexiev (talk) 11:11, 7 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Akkakk: @Giftzwerg 88: @Vladimir Alexiev: @Nurni: still a lot of false positives in it's current form. Added some more characters, but I'm not sure this is the right way to go. Maybe just add a regex that it can't contain "http" to find the urls? Multichill (talk) 20:58, 5 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
No objections after quite some time, changed it. Multichill (talk) 19:11, 22 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Multichill, Manu1400: I see that this property has too format constraint (Q21502404) : (?!http).+ (.{1,100})|. Is it on purpose, can't we merge them together? Something like (?!http)(.{1,100})| ? Or at the very least add the | on the first one (to avoid the somevalue/novalue erros on constraint violations report page). What do you think? Cheers, VIGNERON (talk) 09:54, 24 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Fleet and registration numbers

[edit]

At Wikidata:Property proposal/Transportation#fleet or registration number it has been suggested that this property should be used to store the fleet and/or registration numbers of vehicles. If you have comments about this please make them at the linked discussion. Thryduulf (talk: local | en.wp | en.wikt) 11:36, 8 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

As per consensus at WD:PP/T, P2616 (P2616) will be used instead of this one for fleet or registration numbers of vehicles. Ajraddatz (talk) 16:43, 16 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
ITYM fleet or registration number (P2802). This is a very unfortunate decision. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 09:51, 20 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

More universal use

[edit]

The description seems to be aimed just at museum or archive collections. However, we need also a general property of "inventory numbers" of utilitary subjects, structures and devices. They are two ways: either to extend conception of this property, or to create a new, paralel property with similar or even identical name, but for a bit different usage. See Wikidata:Property proposal/inventory number for discussion. --ŠJů (talk) 18:56, 15 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

HI, I've been using this property in references to accurately represent the accession numbers used in archives and libraries. I have added 'as reference' to the correct uses of the property. James nayler is real (talk) 15:18, 27 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
