Discussion
- I would like to propose the more broader term "Geografischer Bezug" for the German label as "Wirkungsort" is already used in work location (P937). The current label "Versorgungsgebiet" seems to be too narrow. There is a meaning of "... is the "natural" service provider for region x..." inside. This excludes organizations with activities voluntary related to one or more geographic entities (e.g. * Basel Mission (Q355684) for Kamerun (Q668294) or German East Africa Company (Q705587) for German East Africa (Q153963). Another narrower term is "Einsatzgebiet", which is a good translation for "operation zone" concerning military activities. @Mbch331: @Srittau: UJung (talk) 07:42, 2 March 2018 (UTC)
- Imm not that good at German, so I cantt judge if your request is valid. Kopiersperre added the original German translation. Mbch331 (talk) 13:08, 2 March 2018 (UTC)
- I like the word "Gebiet", but the "Versorgungs" part is debatable. "Geografischer Bezug" is too broad for my tastes. But I have no real strong opinions either way. Sebari – aka Srittau (talk) 15:36, 2 March 2018 (UTC)
(@Pintoch:) Is the statement value hierarchy property (P6609) located in the administrative territorial entity (P131) (which means that, for example, operating area (P2541) New York (Q1384) implies operating area (P2541) United States of America (Q30)) correct? I would think that it would be the other way around. Doesn't the property mean that the object area, inclusive, is the operating area? I would expect that the implication would go in the other direction, that, eg operating area (P2541) United States of America (Q30) implies operating area (P2541) New York (Q1384) along with all other subdivisions, which would be included in the operating area. --Yair rand (talk) 23:58, 24 March 2019 (UTC)
- @Yair rand: good point! My understanding of the property was that "A operates in B" would mean "A operates somewhere in B". If a bus company operates in a city, I would say that it does not imply that it operates in every square meter of the city, and there might be neighborhoods in that city where no lines are operated. But I agree your understanding is an equally valid one, so I am removing the value hierarchy property (P6609) claim. This might mean that we could potentially have a way to reverse value hierarchy property (P6609) (with a qualifier or another property, potentially)? − Pintoch (talk) 08:56, 25 March 2019 (UTC)
What is the difference with applies to jurisdiction (P1001)?
[edit]It's not clear for me to understand the difference with applies to jurisdiction (P1001). PAC2 (talk) 20:37, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
