Discussion

Now loading first values

I'm now uploading a first 10,000 values using QuickStatements.

These are values that match on Wikipedia article and GeoNames.

I have also sanity-checked the coordinates. The VoB coordinates were surprisingly variant -- only about 3,700 matched to with 500m; and only about 7,100 to within 1 km. But the matches do appear to be correct. Almost all are within 2 km. I've looked at some of the ones with greater mismatches. For some, this is because the coordinates are for larger features eg Lancashire, which one could allocate any number of point coordinates for. For others, there do seem to be at least some curious values at VoB; there may be some questionable data here, too. It may be worth looking and seeing what GeoNames has, and comparing both our values and the VoB values with that. Jheald (talk) 16:19, 2 March 2017 (UTC)

Second tranche now going in. 2500 values that have a Wikipedia article, but no GeoNames link. Sanity checked again, but will check some of the ones for larger features, eg rivers, to make sure that this is what the VoB item refers to. Jheald (talk) 16:03, 5 March 2017 (UTC)
