Regarding the definition of 'experiment' as "scientific procedure carried out to support, refute, or validate a hypothesis": this is certainly a valid definition for some contexts, like the natural or physical sciences, but perhaps a bit narrow? One can certainly run an experiment 'just to see what happens' without have formulated any previous hypothesis, I would think. In fact this may be the way most experiments are run, including in the natural or physical sciences. The observation - hypothesis - experiment cycle is often a posterior interpretation or justification of the work really done, I think.  – The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jlammens (talk • contribs) at 28 April 2020‎ (UTC).
