Work item properties

[edit]

A map will have 2 manifestations: the work and the edition/copy/manuscript following the (FRBR model).

A separate publication is the published work, where the map work appears. It can be a single published map or a book containing the map or the atlas.

An atlas is a collection of maps, but how is it described? How are map sheets identified as work items and as copies? Pehaps with part of (P361) <-> has part(s) (P527). Example: The Cactaceae. Volume 2 (Q14592529).

Old map publications can be reconstructed, extended etc. That should be modelled.

These properties are mainly for items linked to Wikipedia pages.

Manuscript/original/copy/tangible properties

[edit]

Manuscripts are single copies of literary works, so a manuskript is not the same as a literary work. All the properties as author, date of publishing etc. belong to the manuscript alone. All manuscript items need instance of (P31)+manuscript (Q87167). There are some more common items to characterise a manuscript in combination with instance of (P31): codex (Q213924), literary fragment (Q1440453), ostracon (Q834459), miscellaneous manuscript (Q2217259), palimpsest (Q274076), Evangeliary (Q1754581), Gospel Book (Q690851), lectionary (Q284465). Please specify the writing material for made from material (P186): papyrus (Q125576), paper (Q11472), leather (Q286), parchment (Q226697) shard (Q1463658). The editor, if there is any, is the one who publishes the text of the manuscript for the first time in print. The publishing date publication date (P577) also belongs to the first printed edition. There is a time, when the manuscript was made, this is done with inception (P571), please choose an apropriate precision level in the advanced adjustments. Chose a location for location (P276) that has the best possible precision, otherwise use the city where P195 is located.

Exemplar properties

[edit]

There are a number of wikipedia articles which deal with a single copy of a book which has become notable for some reason. See Lincoln Bible (Q1816474) and the bibles listed in Category:Individual Bibles (Q8546779). These will need different properties from those used for a literary work.

Where there is only one copy of a literary work then the wikidata page may need both sets of properties.
