Latin script vs. alphabet
[edit]Hi. Any particular reason for those two edits, [1] and [2]? Littledogboy (talk) 23:47, 12 May 2013 (UTC)
- Latin alphabet is from the m:List of articles every Wikipedia should have. Most of interwiki should be related to this article not to Latin script. That why Maqivi tried to restore normal behavior. I completely agree with him. --Zanka (talk) 15:12, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
- You are right about the list of 1000, curious. But you guys must realize that the Russian article and the English article do not match now? I looked at quite a few of the pages, as well as incoming links before making the move – would you please look at the issue again and help with languages you know, commenting at Talk:Q8229? (I know about alphabets, the Cyrillics was invented in the Czech Republic.) Littledogboy (talk) 19:39, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
- Ok. Lets continue on Talk:Q8229. --Zanka (talk) 20:42, 13 May 2013 (UTC)

Merging items
[edit]Hallo Maqivi,
For merging items, you may want to use the merge.js gadget from help page about merging. It has an option "Request deletion for extra items on RfD" to automatically place a request to delete the emptied page. This way of nominating makes it a lot easier for the admins to process the requests.

Maqivi (talk) 08:55, 20 August 2014 (UTC)
--Michgrig (talk) 15:21, 14 November 2014 (UTC)
Maqivi (talk) 15:22, 14 November 2014 (UTC)
--Michgrig (talk) 15:26, 14 November 2014 (UTC)
Wikisaurus (talk) 20:52, 19 September 2019 (UTC)
Hello, you translated the German name to „Федеральная гимназия Вены № 15“. This does not seem apt as it isn’t the 15th Bundesgymnasium in Vienna but rather the first one in the 15th district of Vienna. Maybe you could find a better translation? --Emu (talk) 17:10, 8 November 2019 (UTC)
How did you do that?
[edit]For Q49377, how did you manage to use a redirect link as a reference? Veverve (talk) 21:22, 28 November 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks! Veverve (talk) 23:32, 28 November 2019 (UTC)
- I think it would have been better to use this redirect. Veverve (talk) 17:04, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks! Veverve (talk) 23:32, 28 November 2019 (UTC)
Could you do it again? Veverve (talk) 14:05, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
Nevermind, I did it myself. Veverve (talk) 14:12, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
Reservoir
[edit]What is the motivation behind your reverts to reservoir (Q131681) and water reservoir (Q2551525)? Now Q131681 again mixes two topics: 1) reservoirs that are impounded on rivers (e.g. German, French sitelink, to name a few, refer to an article strictily about it), and 2) water reservoirs that include other kinds of bodies of water as well. I spent a lot of time checking Wikipedia articles and labels in different languages in order to clear this up. Afterwards some labels/sitelinks probably still needed checking, but generally the distinction between two items became much more clear this way. I also checked links to these items that mostly seem fine. Do you have a problem with particular sitelink or label? If so, then this probably can be solved without mixing the two topics again. 2001:7D0:81F7:B580:65F6:FF17:B2BF:649C 17:06, 14 October 2020 (UTC)
Maqivi (talk) 05:08, 16 October 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, some Wikipedias don't have separate article about reservoirs as impounded lakes, and this is the reason why I also tried to sort sitelinks accordingly. As long as it isn't clear what reservoir (Q131681) is about, users with different interface languages use it for different purposes and this naturally produces confusion. Though, as all or almost all remaining uses of Q131681 refer to impounded lakes, it's also tied with properties like reservoir created (P4661) (i.e. impounded lake), then it seems reasonable to narrow down it's topic accordingly and move sitelinks referring to articles about reservoirs in broader sense to already existing water reservoir (Q2551525) item. I don't see a good reason to create third "reservoir" item, this wouldn't resolve the issue that subject of the current item is ambiguous, distinction between two already existing items would remain unclear, and all in all probably much more cleanup would be needed afterwards (e.g. in relation to mentioned "reservoir created" property). If I get it right you suggest merging water reservoir (Q2551525) with water tank (Q6501028)? These are quite clearly different, first if for specific built structures, and second is for all kinds of water reservoirs, including natural ones. 2001:7D0:81F7:B580:D1DF:7FC3:3F3:7D21 08:01, 16 October 2020 (UTC)
- reservoir (Q131681) is included in the List of articles every Wikipedia should have/Expanded, so this element should include articles about reservoirs in the broad sense of the word. Maqivi (talk) 08:14, 16 October 2020 (UTC)
- I don't see how you come to this conclusion. This page doesn't include definitions nor is it clear how is this list superior to Wikidata content (and not the other way around). Though, it lists Q131681 as an artificial landform, while reservoirs in broad sense includes natural bodies of water as well. 2001:7D0:81F7:B580:D1DF:7FC3:3F3:7D21 08:28, 16 October 2020 (UTC)
- In such cases, they usually focus on the article in English. Maqivi (talk) 08:32, 16 October 2020 (UTC)
- It's hard to say as English Wikipedia article is defined as "natural or artificial", not only "artificial" as in this list. If it should be based on English-language article, then I suppose you may simply fix it accordingly and also link to different Wikidata item, if you like.
- Though, more importantly, what would be your solution to concerns outlined above, and what particular problems you think my solution has (if there are actual problems, then they may not be too tricky to solve). 2001:7D0:81F7:B580:D1DF:7FC3:3F3:7D21 08:48, 16 October 2020 (UTC)
Wikidata:Project chat. Maqivi (talk) 07:48, 17 October 2020 (UTC)
- Large part of English Wikipedia article seems to be about reservoirs as impounded lakes, but it covers other kinds of water reservoirs too (including water tanks). So I consider it more accurate to link it with Wikidata item about water reservoirs in broad sense. I may be missing some nuances in your reply since regretfully I Google translate it. Again, if my solution has bottlenecks that need further attention (or perhaps should be discussed in project chat?) then what exactly are they? 2001:7D0:81F7:B580:85D9:D7D3:EB53:4BDB 13:50, 17 October 2020 (UTC)
Maqivi (talk) 11:47, 19 October 2020 (UTC)
- Well, it already is divided as separate items exist. Except that the distinction between the two is left unclear and many Wikidata articles currently attached to Q131681 don't match item description nor other sitelinks, as descirbed above more thoroughly. It seems rather basic to me that on Wikidata separate concepts warrant separate items and if there are separate items then it should be made clear what the distinction is. So I don't know what exactly should be discussed further and changes to my knowledge generally aren't discussed in project chat without good reason. 2001:7D0:81F7:B580:A8EF:EEA7:F824:6D3A 14:50, 19 October 2020 (UTC)

Death angels
[edit]There are several figures that have been identified as "angels of death" in several mythologies, the Destroying angel (Bible) refers to a more specific type of angel described only in the Hebew Bible. StarTrekker (talk) 19:29, 22 March 2023 (UTC)
Programmers
[edit]Hi Maqivi,
I have asked myself: How do you find newly created items on programmers so quickly?-- U. M. Owen (talk) 17:18, 4 July 2023 (UTC)
- Hi, articles with new items without russian names appear here, I periodically monitor and clean these lists.
