Motivation

[edit]

Identifier of Oscar-nominated and Oscar-winning films in the official Academy Awards database maintained by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (Q212329). Trivialist (talk) 23:43, 11 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion

[edit]
  • "000123abc,zyx" is valid in your RegEx. I see ^([1-9]\d{0,3}|1[0-1]\d{3})$ instead. From 1 to 11999 (+sustainability).
  • Do you want to include only movies? At least, could not we include all the works (doc, short film, etc.)? (see the wiki code for the translation)
  • description: Identifier for artwork in the official Academy Awards database
I vote in the conditional this time, because there are too many mistakes. Best regards. --Eihel (talk) 17:29, 14 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Why would it be "always incomplete"? There are a finite number of nominated works, and we could potentially list them all (with periodic updates). Andrew Gray (talk) 19:30, 14 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Andrew Gray: Think of {{Ping|to talk to me}}, I can not be everywhere! That's what you put in parentheses which is precisely the answer to your question: updates, so... I think it's in March (I don't know), but every year there's a new ceremony and so additions to the db. So, never complete, this story ... by definition. Cordially. --Eihel (talk) 20:02, 14 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Eihel: That's not how we usually use this value on properties - if it can be completed at some point, even if not forever, eventually complete (Q21873974) is appropriate. When it is completed, but we expect new values to be added, we can mark it as is complete, but new values may exist in the future (Q47169297) (not is complete (Q21874050), which would be for "no more things will be added"). always incomplete (Q21873886) is meant for situations where we know we will not try and complete it (like eg VIAF). @Andrew Gray:, Comédie-Française ID (P5616) and others go in the direction you indicate. You convinced me, so I change my text. Thank you for catching my attention . The rest of the errors don't make me change my mind. What's your opinion (below)? Cordially. --Eihel (talk) 22:31, 14 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Andrew Gray, Eihel: Thanks for your comments. I've updated the regex, as suggested. Eihel: This identifier is for all films included in the database, so shorts and documentaries will be included. Regarding completeness, the mix'n'match for this should contain all of the films in the database Once they are all matched, it will be complete, at least until the next Oscars. Trivialist (talk) 01:20, 15 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Trivialist: I still can not support this proposal because it's still not good. To understand better, you can follow the Wikidata:Property proposal/César Award film ID to help fill it. By ignoring description and expected completeness (which I already deleted), some errors remain:
And your second proposal below also contains the same mistakes. --Eihel (talk) 02:30, 15 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The subject item is any film nominated for an Oscar, not just for Best Picture. And as I said above, I expect this to be eventally complete once all of the items in the mix'n'match are matched to their Wikidata items. Trivialist (talk) 02:38, 15 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, Academy Awards (Q19020) for subject item, not film (Q11424). --Eihel (talk) 02:49, 15 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
