Motivation

[edit]

While we have iTunes movie ID (P6398), Apple (Q312) has introduced a new movie backend and ID system. New Apple TV+ (Q62446736) films only seem to be listed under this new system and do not have a iTunes movie ID (P6398). It seems like all iTunes movie ID (P6398) movies are also available under this new system, so it's not just TV+ content. From what's publicly available, it's unclear to me if Apple intends to deprecate the iTunes system at some point in favor of this. The existing iTunes system does have a publicly available API which makes it much easier to automate. Hoping that sticks around. And it'd would be great if there was an automated way to map any existing iTunes movie ID (P6398) over to the new IDs.

This ID would be scoped to just films/movies. If approved, I would follow up with a proposal to add an "Apple TV show ID".

While there’s no public api, there is still good news. The catalog is exposed as a public sitemap. This could be scraped and turned into a Mix’n’match catalog. At the moment, there are 90,742 movie ids. Josh404 (talk) 16:38, 29 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
