Motivation
There are some 1.700 bridges in Amsterdam, and all of those bridges have a number. Unfortunately there is no appropiate property to use them. Right now many of the Amsterdam bridges use series ordinal (P1545), but that seems wrong. It's ment as a qualifier, and bridge numbers are not really an ordinal, but an identifier.
As far as i know the bridge number is an unique concept to the city of Amsterdam, so i'm open to naming this propery "Amsterdam bridge number", but making it a bit more general (and using a qualifier to distinguish the municipality, i guess located in the administrative territorial entity (P131) would be appropiate) could make this property more useful in the future. This property would be comparable to street key (P1945). Husky (talk) 23:08, 22 April 2018 (UTC)
Discussion
- Comment We don't allow external id's to have qualifiers to disambiguate them, so if you want it listed as an ID rather than a string value, it needs to be specific to Amsterdam. ArthurPSmith (talk) 19:47, 23 April 2018 (UTC)
- @ArthurPSmith: ah right, is that why street key (P1945) does have required qualifiers, so it can use string instead of the external identifier datatype? In that case i'll be happy to change the datatype to string. Husky (talk) 09:21, 24 April 2018 (UTC)
- bridge numbers also exist in other cities and in rural areas, see c:Category:Bauwerksnummer. So I think it makes sense to have datatype string with a required qualifier to indicate the number system. We could also consider to extend the scope to all kinds of architectural structures. --Pasleim (talk) 12:39, 7 May 2018 (UTC)
- I would like to limit the usecase to bridges only, because we already have street key (P1945) and catalog code (P528) for those. Husky (talk) 17:00, 11 May 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose; use catalog code (P528)/catalog (P972). Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 22:18, 18 May 2018 (UTC)
Andy is right, this property is probably not needed. I'm going to change bridge numbers with the catalog / catalog code. Husky (talk) 22:29, 21 May 2018 (UTC)
