Motivation
[edit]The UK government is adopting USRNs to identify streets in the UK (as part of a motion to streamline and increase accuracy of address data). This proposal is just to get the ball rolling on having a property for these in Wikidata (the data isn't released openly under Open Government Licence (Q17016921) until July). Highly recommend you read the government posts I've linked here to understand why these identifiers are relevant. SilentSpike (talk) 13:31, 9 April 2020 (UTC)
Discussion
[edit]- Comment can we do this once data is available? --- Jura 08:35, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
- Comment Yes, I've only opened these proposals so that any opposing views on whether these IDs should be included can be expressed. Will explicitly mark both as on hold until the data is available. --SilentSpike (talk) 10:04, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
- @SilentSpike: when available, please add three samples. --- Jura 09:34, 29 June 2020 (UTC)
- @Jura1: I've added the USRNs of the two English examples and was unable to find an open source for USRNs in Scotland (besides some sample data). --SilentSpike (talk) 18:05, 1 July 2020 (UTC)
- Support - data is available from 1 July 2020: [1]. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 20:44, 26 June 2020 (UTC)
- @SilentSpike: the proposal says these are 8 digit numbers, but the two examples are only 7 digits. Which is it? ArthurPSmith (talk) 21:45, 3 July 2020 (UTC)
- @ArthurPSmith: Good question. The blog post I link in the motivation specifies 8 digit numbers. However, the GeoPlace source I used for English/Welsh USRN's listed them as those 7 digit values. I suspect it's similar to Wikidata:Property_proposal/Unique_Property_Reference_Number where they are strictly 8 digits, but still work without leading 0's. --SilentSpike (talk) 20:10, 4 July 2020 (UTC)
- @SilentSpike: Hmm, if they are to be external ID's I think we need to settle on the format, and given the \d{8} regular expression I think I'd prefer to see the leading zeros included - though it says "unique ... number" so maybe not intended to be unique strings? Since we don't have a formatter URL it's not clear what "still work" would mean here... ArthurPSmith (talk) 20:08, 6 July 2020 (UTC)
- @SilentSpike: please feel free to set it to ready once three samples added. --- Jura 15:02, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
