Wikidata:WikiProject Clinical Trials/Model
The data models for the project are the recommended properties for curating content in clinical research.
The Wikidata community does not import whole datasets, but rather, editors import parts of data which they feel can integrate with other Wikidata content and use for community purposes. Consequently, clinical trials data in Wikidata lacks much of the detail of the original sources.
The AACT Database (Q76654384) has a complete data model for ClinicalTrials.gov as illustrated here. This WikiProject imported a much simpler dataset, while importing it to Wikidata some of the content imported data became more specific like names of researchers and research sites, while other kinds of data may become more general like the names of medical conditions for trials which looked at highly specific conditions. Familiarity with both Wikidata and the original data source helps to guide decisions in editing content in Wikidata. Differences with the Wikidata model include that it only contains structured data whereas the original source is unstructured free text; and that Wikidata prefers connecting concepts to authoritative identifiers whereas the original source permits ambiguity.
