In particular, the possibility that such a collection might include coins from diπerent hoards that Francesco Martinetti had purchased by in central-southern Italy and in Sicily was investigated and ascertained. Such hoards are therefore examined in this paper.

Alcuni di essi sono decisamente noti al grande pubblico, altri meno, ma tutti sono stati importanti e legati a questo luogo, nel quale spesso hanno lasciato un segno evidente della loro presenza. Nelle righe che seguono si offrirà una veloce galleria di nomi e di storie, che non intende e che non può essere considerata completa ma che vuole semplicemente dare un'idea della vitalità di questa parte della città e delle persone che l'hanno frequentata e vissuta nei secoli passati.
