GE announced on Wednesday that it is letting go of 134 employees at its facilities in Tampere, Finland. The company said it needs to slash costs due to tightening markets.
Production of its Grid Solutions equipment will be moved to facilities in the US state of Florida and Itajubá, Brazil, according to the company. The gear produced at such facilities is used in the power grid infrastructure industry.
GE also announced plans to sell off its low voltage business.
Late last year GE initially said it might have to cut as many as 200 jobs.
On Wednesday however, due to an increase in orders it received, the company said it would not cut jobs within its Flexible AC Transmission Systems unit.
Some job cuts were avoided at the company's facilities in Helsinki, as well.
GE employs some 1,000 people in Finland, most of them working within GE Healthcare. The restructuring and job cuts did not affect workers in the health care division.
