The City of Helsinki has requested investigative assistance from the police in relation to a mass coronavirus exposure at a bar in the district of Vuosaari.

At least 15 people who attended the TimeOut Sports Bar & Grill on Saturday 30 January have since become infected with the virus, according to the City’s Chief Physician Timo Lukkarinen.

"This is probably a more contagious virus variant," he said, adding that the City has asked for police assistance because it has not been possible to reach all people potentially exposed.

"In this case, the infections have spread so suddenly that it is important to reach everyone who was in the restaurant as soon as possible," Lukkarinen said, adding that infections have occurred among several different customer groups.

The Regional State Administrative Agency (Avi) for Southern Finland’s alcohol inspection unit is now investigating the events surrounding the mass exposure in cooperation with the police, Lukkarinen said.
