Finnish President Sauli Niinistö and Prime Minister Sanna Marin (SDP) have expressed their shock on Twitter following Saturday's mass shooting in the capital of neighbouring Norway.
Two people were killed and 21 wounded in the mass shooting early on Saturday morning. The act took place outside of a popular LGBTQ+ bar in central Oslo. The city's annual Pride parade was to be held on Saturday but was cancelled on police advice.
A 42-year-old Norwegian man has been arrested and charged with murder, attempted murder, and committing terrorist acts. Norwegian police described it as an "act of Islamist terrorism" while adding that the suspect has had "mental health challenges".
In a tweet, Niinistö said he was "deeply shocked and saddened by the terrorist act", and mentioned Finland's "condemnation of terrorism in all its forms".
Marin also said there is no place for terrorism. Marin commented that her thoughts are now with the families and loved ones of the victims.
Marin, who last year described growing up in a "rainbow family," served as the patron of Helsinki's Pride March in 2020.
