In addition only one percent of Finns are now without a mobile phone, while the popularity of landlines is on the decrease. Only 20 percent of households across the country now have a landline phone. The survey also revealed large regional disparities in landline use. In Lapland only 3 percent of households had a landline phone while the figure was as high as 40 percent in Ostrobothnia.

The internet is a "must have" for the younger generation, with over 95 percent of those in the under 50 age group having regular internet access. Around a third of users have a fast connection of over 8Mbit per second.

Three thousand people between the ages of 15 and 79 took part in the survey which was carried out in November of last year.
