Electricity Consumption at Record Levels

On Friday morning, electricity consumption in Finland surged to a new high for this winter. Fingrid, the operator of Finland’s main electricity transmission grid, has said that countrywide consumption rose to about 14,700 megawatts.

The cold weather gripping Finland has also manifested in an electricity consumption climb. Fingrid reports that, at 7:39 am on Friday, consumption reached 14,674 megawatts.

Less electricity is used in daytime, while the evening high comes at 6 pm.

The all-time record in Finland stands at nearly 15,000 megawatts. Fingrid’s Development Manager Jyrki Uusitalo estimates that the record is unlikely to be broken, since the days are getting longer and sunny weather is taking hold, reducing the need for electric lighting.
