Snowfall Cuts Electricity Supply in Many Areas

Heavy snowfall and sleet late Saturday and early Sunday has caused problems in the distribution of electricity in many parts of Finland. Thousands of households in Northern Ostrobothnia and Northern Savo were without electricity for several hours on Sunday.

Most of the problems were attributed to trees weighed down by heavy snow falling on top of electric lines.

Most of the problems have been fixed, although there were repeated reports of new blackouts on Sunday.

The heavy snow has also caused trees to fall on roads.
