Dog Claw Clipper Scoops Five Domestic Film Awards

The Finnish film Koirankynnen leikkaaja, or Dog Claw Clipper, was the biggest winner at this year's Jussi Awards.

The story of a brain damaged war veteran, who gets an idealistic obsession to help a neglected dog by clipping its claws, scooped five Jussis, the Finnish versions of the Oscars, including Best Movie.

Peter Franzén received a prize for Best Actor and Markku Pölönen was awarded Best Director at the event.

Other winners were Outi Mäenpää for Best Actress in Kukkia ja sidontaa, or Flowers and Binding and Minttu Mustakallio, who received an award for Best Supporting Role in Aikuisia ja lapsia, or Producing Adults.

Finnish films were awarded overseas too. Paha Maa, or Frozen Land, won the top prize at Sweden's Göteborg Film Festival. The director, Aku Louhimies, received the Nordic Award with a prize of over 11,000 euros.

He told YLE Radio that he was surprised at the accolades, since it was a film that he knew would not appeal to everyone.

The Göteborg Film Festival is the largest in the Nordic region.
