The idea of an information security day started in Finland. This year's theme is making children, their parents and teachers more net-savvy.
Finnish schools have also launched a year-long campaign to inform kids about safety online.
Meanwhile a new poll indicates that nine out of 10 Finnish children feel it is well within their parents' rights to supervise online activities.
The survey was carried out by the Save the Children organisation and a local anti-drugs NGO. Nearly 70 percent of kids say their use of the internet causes no problems.
More than one in 10 admit to surfing the web at least 20 hours a week.
