Parliament under Pressure to Cut Inheritance Tax

Pressure is building in parliament to reduce the inheritance tax or do away with it completely.

Support for abolishing the tax is greatest among the Conservatives, Centre Party, Swedish People's Party and Christian Democrats.

A survey by the newspaper Aamulehti found that most opposed to any changes were MPs of the Left Alliance and Greens. The Social Democrats also had reservations.

However, the Social Democratic Finance Minister Antti Kalliomäki says the government simply can not afford to abolish the inheritance tax.
