Upswing in Credit Card Shopping

Credit card purchases increased by around one third compared to 2003. Goods and services were bought to the tune of 9.3 billion euros.

The data comes from a credit card report drawn up by Statistics Finland.

The survey indicates that the majority of purchases, 7.6 billion euros, were made without interest, with shoppers paying the full amount owed.

Actual credit purchasing totalled 1.7 billion euros. Credit was primarily used at service stations and hotels.

Bank cards were used to purchase goods to the value of 16.2 billion euros last year. This represents an increase of 10% over the previous year. The average price of a bank card purchase was 36 euros, while those with credit cards averaged at 62 euros.
