Engineering Firm in Pori Wins Big Contract

A company in Pori has received a huge order for oil rig parts for the storm-ravaged Gulf of Mexico.

Technip Offshore will rehire 300 laid-off employees, and even take on new staff in order to complete the new contract.

The design, procurement and fabrication of oil rig equipment and systems will be carried out by Technip's yard in Pori. The contract will involve the Pori plant producing machinery and systems which will be used in Chevron's "Tahiti" oil field. The oil field is located about 300 kilometres southwest of New Orleans in the Gulf of Mexico.

The contract with Chevron is worth 230 million euros. The French-owned engineering group Technip has facilities in half a dozen countries.
