The survey, which was sponsored by the Central Organisation of Finnish Trade Unions indicates that supporters of the National Coalition Party candidate, Sauli Niinistö are most determined to exercise their franchise. However another survey has found that the incumbent Tarja Halonen, who is supported by the Left Alliance and the Social Democrats, best answers the presidential expectations of most voters.
According to the survey, 93 percent of the electorate think that they will see their favourite candidate selected by the first round of voting. Women in particular are convinced that they will participate in the vote, with 75 per cent of them determined to use their voting right, while 64 per cent of men plan to do so.
In the 200 presidential elections 76.9 per cent of voters turned out to cast their ballots, however this figure was 5 per cent lower than the voter turnout in the 1994 presidential race. The survey was conducted by Finnish Gallup on behalf of the trade union coalition, and drew opinions from more than 900 adults. However, the poll was not able to determine whom Finns will select as their next President.
