Giant Puzzle Commemorates Brain Awareness Week

The Finnish Brain Foundation is inviting members of the public to exercise their grey matter as a means of observing International Brain Awareness week. The organisers are also hoping that the giant puzzle project will earn them a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records.

The 25,500-piece puzzle is being put together in the Kamppi area of Helsinki, and should be completed by Saturday evening. By reminding people of how they can keep the area between the ears in tip-top condition, the Finnish Brain Foundation hopes it can draw attention to the need for continuous research into the brain.

In a country where more than 1.5 million people suffer from some kind of brain disorder, the work of the Foundation takes on even greater significance.

Brain Awareness Week is an international effort organized by the Dana Alliance for Brain Initiatives to advance public awareness about the progress and benefits of brain research. The event is being observed in 57 countries worldwide by over 1500 organisations. This week's events mark the second time that Finland is participating in the international observances.
