In the spring of 2005, about 73 percent of Finns between the ages of 15 and 74 surfed the internet. Four years earlier, the number was just over 50 percent. The study also reports that 27 percent of those over the age of 60 used the internet last spring, while about two-thirds of those with internet at home surfed the web daily or nearly daily.
The number of women internet users has also grown. In the 30-49 age group, more women than men surf the internet.
According to the study, Finns are using the internet for more diverse reasons than before.
Over three-fourths of net users have used internet banking. One-third have shopped online. Planning trips and reading newspapers are other popular reasons Finns go online. YLE24
