Helsinki and Uusimaa Hospital District: No Handshaking, Please!
Hospitals in the capital city region are looking to improve hygiene and ward off infections by urging staff and patients not to shake hands. Hospital officials say they hope the move will help prevent hospital bacteria, norovirus and respiratory infections from spreading.

The “Avoid Shaking Hands” campaign was launched last week at all hospitals in the Helsinki and Uusimaa district. Wall posters have been put up to introduce patients to the campaign.
Experts say bacteria spread particularly rapidly when doctors shake hands with patients while making rounds.
