EU Agrees on Measures to Raise Milk Demand

EU's Ministers of Agriculture have agreed on new measures to boost demand for milk. The ministers on Monday discussed among other things how to raise the demand for milk in schools.

In a bid to help ease the difficult financial situation faced by many dairy producers, advance autumn payments of EU support money will be made in October.

According to the State Secretary of Finland's Ministry of Agriculture, Jouni Lind, all EU countries agreed that measures are needed to raise the demand for milk products.

Finnish milk producers are not as badly hit by the downturn in the market as those in France, for instance, where the producers' prices have dropped by nearly 20 cents per litre.
