Police Not Allowed to Search Homes of Gun Owners

Government officials have dropped a provision from draft gun legislation that would have given police the right to search the homes of gun hobbyists, reports the regional daily Aamulehti.

Under the proposal, firearm license applicants would, however, be required to be gun club members.

The proposal to amend gun laws may lead to firearm license fees doubling from the current cost to applicants of 32 euros, according to Esko Rasi, a regional police inspector.

Government’s draft firearm bill, which seeks to tighten regulations for firearm permits, will come before Parliament in June.
