Finnair to Slash 450 Technical Jobs

Finnish national air carrier Finnair is set to cut 450 jobs from its technical services division as separation talks launched in mid-February ended Thursday.

The retrenchment discussions kicked off in the wake of plans to wind down inhouse aircraft maintenance services.

The elimination of the technical unit will affect 450 staffers, of whom nearly 100 will be transferred to other jobs within the organization.

The majority of those who will be re-deployed will find work in the Transval logistics services company. On Thursday Finnair and Transval signed an agreement which could see Finnair Technical Services also transfer its warehousing business.

Finnair says the fate of the other 350 jobs slated for retrenchment will be clarified when the airline knows how many can be managed by way of voluntary retirements and departures.

Finnair Technical Services currently employs 1,600 persons.
