Retail Sector Talks Bear No Fruit

A fresh round of talks on Thursday aimed at preventing planned strikes in the retail sector have failed to bring a solution to the ongoing dispute. The Service Union United PAM has called for a two-day stoppage in all Prisma and Citymarket stores later next week if no new deal on pay and conditions is reached. More talks will be held on Friday.

PAM has threatened three strikes altogether, the first of which would start on Friday next week and end on Saturday. Later strikes would encompass warehouses of central stores and more shops in addition to Prisma and Citymarket stores—both smaller retailers and Stockmann.

Negotiations over a new collective agreement in the sector broke down last week over pay issues. Over 200,000 employees are affected by the talks.
